Pearce was born in Philadelphia but lived and worked in Manasquan, NJ, painting landscapes, interiors, figures and still-lifes. He studied under Chase and Weir.

Oil on board, image size 5 x 7 1/4 inches, c. 1860s, signed, in original frame. Batcheller was a well-known artist in Providence, RI in the late 19th century, specializing in still life paintings. He was also one of the founding members along with Charles Walter Stetson, George William Whitaker, and Edward M. Bannister of the Providence Art Club. Provenance: Waterman, Gilder and Picture Framer, Providence, RI.
