Oil on canvas, 12 x 16 inches, signed "L.D. Eldred" lower right, period frame. Eldred was born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, and eventually settled in Boston. He studied under William Bradford at the National Academy and later shared a studio with Bradford in New York. He is best known for depictions of the New England coast and its whaling fleet.

Lithograph, image size 6 x 7 1/4 inches, 1858, plate signed and dated. William Morris Hunt was one of the earliest American lithographers. He was also a painter, and studied the French Barbizon style in Europe with Millet, a close friend. Hunt is widely credited with bringing the Barbizon style of painting back to the U.S.
