This landscape by Dexter Dawes measures 15 x 20 7/8 inches, is signed and dated, 1937. There are some indications that it was painted on a rainy day. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.


Dewey Triumphal Arch
1864-1919, American

This elegant and detailed etching by Charles Mielatz measures 14 3/4 x 10 7/8 inches. Created in 1899 in a very small edition of 25 proofs, it depicts the American Naval Arch on the corner of 5th Avenue and 23rd Street in New York City. It is plate signed and dated and also pencil signed. On the lower margin is a pencil sketch of a US Navy battleship. Born in Germany and arriving in the US as a young boy, Mielatz went on to study at the Chicago School of Design. His first prints were of the New England landscape but after visiting NYC the urban landscape became his subject of choice.
