Etchings

This original etching by Paul Paeschke measures 6 1/4 x 8 3/4 inches and is pencil signed. Paeschke studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin under Karl Kopping. He traveled extensively through Germany and other European countries. He mainly depicted the busy inner-city streets of Berlin and other cities and so he became an important chronicler of public life during the early 20th century. Paeschke created numerous masterly etchings, which can equally be placed next to the graphic works of Max Liebermann, Max Slevogt or Lesser Ury.

A very fine original etching by American sporting artist Richard E. Bishop, image size 9 3/4 x 7 7/8 inches, pencil signed and titled. Primarily a self taught artist, Bishop was known for his etchings of wildfowl; in 1936 his image of Canada geese was selected for the third Federal Duck Stamp.

This is a very fine etching and aquatint in colors of a street in Vienna, Austria, with the tower of St Stephen's rising in the background. The image size is 17 3/4 x 15 1/4 inches, 1925, cat: Lorenz- 16, dated in the plate, pencil signed. Kasimir traveled all over Europe and the United States creating many spectacular color etchings. He specialized in atmospheric images of architecture, city scenes and landscapes; some bustling with people and automobiles, others quite timeless and serene.

This is a beautiful original drypoint etching of a flock of sheep taking shelter from a blustery winter day by American artist R. W. Woiceske. The image size is 9 3/8 x 14 1/8 inches, published c. 1940 in an edition of 50, pencil signed and titled. Woiceske was born in Bloomington Indiana and studied at the St Louis School of Fine Arts and at the Artist Colony in Woodstock, NY with Birge Harrison and John Carlson. He was involved in the WPA, and became known for his atmospheric etchings of snowy winter scenes.

This 1939 etching by Walter Locke measures 9 3/4 x 13 inches, pencil signed, titled and dated. AAA label included with artist provenance.

A beautiful drypoint etching by the New England artist, Chauncey Foster Ryder, measuring 9 3/4 x 11 7/8 inches, pencil signed with Chicago Society of Etchers blind stamp on the l.l., in an edition of 325, 1943. Ryder studied at the Art Institute and Smith's Academy in Chicago before enrolling at the Academie Julien in Paris where he studied for two years. His work was exhibited at the Salon from 1903 to 1909.

This etching by Daubigny measures 7 1/4 x 13 1/4 inches, "Daubigny pinx 8c sculp" on l.l., "PARC A MOUTONS, LE MATIN." on l.c. and "Imp. Delatre, Rue des Feuillantines; 4, Paris." on l.r., D. 95, between 2nd and 3rd state of 4, center crease.

This is a very rare etching from a scarce, unpublished plate by Francis Sydney Unwin. The image size is 12 1/8 x 16 inches, 1916, pencil signed; a richly inked impression on a fine cream colored Japan paper. Unwin studied at the Winchester School of Art and the Slade School; he traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent several months in Egypt drawing the tomb interiors for an archaeological expedition. He then settled in London, becoming known for his landscapes and remarkable interior architectural views, such as this finely detailed image of the Albert Hall.
