Harry Shokler was born in Ohio and studied at the Cincinnatti Art Academy and the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts. Known as a Regionalist painter and printmaker, Shokler was one of the pioneers of the serigraph or silkscreen process of printmaking and in 1946 wrote one of the foremost books on the process, the "Artist's Manual for Silkscreen Printmaking".
