This is an original oil on board painting by Canadian artist Albert Edward Cloutier ((1902-1965) Signed lower center, this painting has an image area of
29X35 inches. It came to us in what appears to be the original frame with the Walter Klinkhoff Gallery,Montreal, label on the back. The title of this work is:
"Winter Lac Ouimet, Mont Tremblant", it is a view of the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. Albert Cloutier was a painter, commercial artist and muralist who grew up in Montreal. He also lived in Ottawa and during his time as a war artist was posted in several locations in eastern Canada. He was a member of the R.C.A. and also the CSGA. He moved to Saint-Hilaire, Quebec in 1959 where he lived the rest of his life. His mediums were primarily oils and graphics. His subjects were landscapes, commercial art and (during the war)the military. His style was expressionist and greatly influenced by the Group of Seven.
He studied art under A.Y.Jackson and Edwin Holgate. And from 1955 until 1965 he taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal.
This is a beautiful cast bronze portrait of a young girl by Italian/American artist Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta. The bust is 14 inches tall and stands on a 6 inch base. signed by the artist on the lower corner, dated 1912, with a Benjamin Zoppo, New York foundry mark. Scarpitta was born in Italy and graduated from the Royal Italian Academy before emigrating to America. He was a very successful sculptor, creating commissions for the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building, the Church of St John the Evangelist and Church of the Sacred Blood, as well as portraits of Mussolini, Marlene Dietrich, and Frank Springer; in 1914 he was awarded the Bartlett Prize from the National Academy of Design.
This is a fine drypoint etching by French artist of the Belle Epoque, Paul Cesar Helleu. This portrait: Élégante au grand Chapeau et à la Fourrure, (Elegant woman with a large Hat and Fur) Was created and printed in 1907, pencil signed and published by "Bischoff and Hofle Munchen, 1907" blind stamped in the lower right border. The image measures a platemark of 21 1/2X13 1/2 inches. Printed in a warmtoned ink with hand coloring added. This is a very rare example of his drypoint portraits. We were unable to find any other examples of this image in galleries or museums. Framed.
This is a fine hand colored drypoint etching by French artist Paul Cesar Helleu. This portrait is of the artist's daughter Ellen. Created and printed in 1897 this etching measures 13X12 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower left border. Printed in a sepia toned ink and some touches of hand coloring.
This oil on canvas painting of an Autumn Stream was the work of American Tonalist Franklin de Haven (1856-1934). This painting measures 30X24 inches. It is signed lower right corner and was created circa 1918. A fine tonalist study of a stream at a lower angle of view. de Haven was a member of the Salmagundi Club where he had numerous shows and won many awards for his impressionistic works of art. This painting was quite similar to the one illustrated on page 464 of the Cleveland Book on American Tonalism.
This is an original etching by American artist James M Whistler. The title is "Eagle Wharf", this image was created and printed in 1859. Signed and dated within the plate. The image measures 5 7/16X8 5/16 inches. It is printed on a thin Japan paper which is rare. This is the only known state before the plate was cancelled. Its is from is series of Sixteen etchings on the Thames. (The Thames Set) A very fine impression. Annotated lower left border, "'Tyzac Whiteley & Co" an alternate title. catalog number is K-41.

This drypoint was created and printed in 1923, printed on a Whatman watermarked laid type paper. This etching was printed in an edition of 150 proofs. It appears in the Ordeman catalog as image number 227. A fine rich impression with plate tone used in the printing of this impression.
This is a fine Belle Epoque portrait in drypoint by French artist Paul Cesar Helleu. The subject is: Madeleine Chéruit. This image measures 15 1/2X11 1/2 inches, hand signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right border. This drypoint is housed in a Foster Brothers period gilt frame.. Madeleine Chéruit was one of the most fashionable French dressmakers of her time. Her house of courture took inspiration from the Belle Epoque through to the Jazz Age.

This is an original painting by American artist Platt Powell Ryder. This scene of the Village Market Place was painted circa 1870, signed by Ryder lower right with ANA after his name, when he was an established member of the National Art Academy. The painting is oil on board, framed underglass. Excellent condition in what appears to be the original 19th century frame. The painting itself measures 7 3/4X10 1/4 inches. The frame itself has some chips to the corners.
This is one of the most impressive etchings by American artist John Taylor Arms. This image is titled: In Memoriam, the view of the North Portal of Chartres Cathedral.
