This 1928 marine etching by the British printmaker Arthur Briscoe measures 12 1/8 x 8 7/8 inches, hand signed in ink and editioned as 7/75. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. Most of Briscoe's etchings show sailing ships and the men who sailed them. His beautifully etched images present an invaluable historical record of the workings of the last great commercial vessels.

This is an original mezzotint by British artist Sir Frank Short.  The title is: "Moonrise on the Bure"  This mezzotint was printed in 1922, the image measures 11X15 7/8 inches, printed on a medium weight wove type paper, pencil signed lower right and monogrammed in the plate lower left corner.  A beautiful rich impression, very subtle tonal range throughout.  Beautiful condition.

A fine example of the Drypoint work of French artist Jacques VIllon. The title of this work is :"L'Epingle A Chapeau", the hat pin. This image was created and printed in 1909. The image is editioned lower left as 12/20. A rare image. The drypoint measures 15X12 inches, printed on a medium weight, watermarked, laid type paper. very fine condition, a rich impression showing a velvet burr of ink throughout the figure.
This drypoint is clearly signed in pencil by the artist lower right border.

This is the famous self portrait by the Belgian printmaker, Jules de Bruycker.  The setting is within his studio with a view of Ghent behind.  The artist at work, this image was created and printed in 1925 in an edition of 125.  The image measures 15 1/4X11 1/4 inches, printed on a wove type sheet which measures 22 1/2X15 1/2 inches.  Hand signed, inscribed  and dated in pencil in the lower margin.

The title of this work is: "Femme Affranchie A Quatorze Hevres Chante Midi" (Emancipated woman, who has lost her bearings) It was part of the Miserere series that Roualt created in 1923. This etching was published by Ambroise Vollard in an edition of 450 and has his Vollard watermark in the sheet. The image is plate signed G. Rouault,1923 lower left in the image. This etching was never hand signed by the artist. It appears in the Wofsy catalog as image number 124. The platemark measures 22X17 inches, The condition is excellent no tears, or stains. This etching is not framed.

This is an original etching by French Master Georges Rouault. The title of this work is: "Sunt lacrymae rerum " ( There are tears in things ) This etching and aquatint was created for the Miserere series in 1926 as image number 27. . The platemark measures 24 1/4 17 1/2 inches. It was published in an edition of 450 on arches wove type paper by Ambroise Vollard. His Vollard watermark appears in the sheet. The etching is signed and dated in the image in the lower right. This etching was never hand signed by the artist.

This is an original etching by French master Georges Rouault. The title is "Solitaire, en cette vie d'embuches et de malices. It was created and printed in 1922 as plate 5 in the Miserere series. This image appears to be an early proof of the etching that was later printed by Vollard. The image measures 22 3/4X16 1/2 inches.It appears in the Wofsy catalog as image number 112. This etching was never hand signed in pencil by the artist.

This is a fine original aquatint etching by French artist Manuel Robbe.  The title is: Le Manege (The Merry-Go-Round)  it was created and printed in 1905.  The image measures 16 1/2X23 1/2 inches.  Hand signed within the image area upper left.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  This image appears in the Michael catalog as image number 129.

This is a very scarce etching by Welsh artist Augustus John.  The subject is a Portrait of Benjamin Evans,  Benjamin Evans is thought to have been etched during Augustus John’s stay in Liverpool, where he taught at the University from 1901-1902.  This image is pencil signed by the artist and has a platemark measuring 5X4 inches.  Very richly printed some very light but even toning to the sheet.  This etching was not published in a formal edition until issued by Knewstub through his Chenil Gallery in 1906, when 25 proofs were printed from this plate. The plate was then cancelled. This image appears in the CD catalog as image number 14.
