William Rickarby Miller

Born in Durham England, moved to NYC in 1845

This is an oil on academy board painting by American artist William Rickarby Miller (1818-1893)  The title of this work is An English Cottage, Brass Plaque on the frame.  On an old label on the back of the board, An English Homestead.  The painting is signed and dated 1882 in the lower right corner.  Housed in a period gilt frame the painting itself measures 12X9 1/2 inches.  In 1845 Miller moved to New York City from England where he lived the rest of his life.  He is best known for his landscapes, still lifes and portraits.  His landscapes were intimate studies of an early rural life style.
