20th Century European Prints

This is a fine original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Lord.  The title is: Fantasy in Blue, created and printed circa 1925.  This image is pencil signed and numbered as 39/75.  The image measures 13 3/4X10 1/4 inches.  Printed on a thin Japan type sheet.

Drypoint etching C. 1927. Plate measures 6 7/8 x 9 on 9 x 12 1/4 inch watermarked David Strang paper. Catalog: Appleby 121. Edition of 100. Illustrated: Fine Prints of the Year, 1927. Numbered 63 out of 100 in the lower left in pencil, pencil signed in the lower right. Plate signed and dated in the lower right. A rich impression with drypoint burr.

This is a scarce etching with drypoint by French artist Auguste Lepere.  The title is Sous Bois, a la Rigonette (Vendee) This image was created and printed in an edition of only 35 prior to the plate being cut down for the later more common edition.  The image measures 7 3/4X10 1/2 inches.  The etching is hand signed in pencil and numbered as 7/35.  Printed on a thin antique laid paper.  This image appears in the Texier catalog as image number 386 ii/iii.

This is a fine original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Ashe Lord.  The title is New Moon, created and printed circa 1930.  This etching is hand signed and numbered in pencil, 19/63.  The image measures 12 1/2X8 7/8 inches.  Some waviness to the sheet but overall in fine condition, It came to us in the original Asian style frame sold by Arthur Ackermann with the original label on the back.

This is an original etching by Belgium artist Jules DeBruycker.  It is titled Ruelle Gand.  It was created and printed in 1906.  Hand signed and titled in pencil.  The image measures 13 1/2X5 1/2 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  Van Gelder watermark.

This is a fine aquatint etching by British artist Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970)  The subject is Pavlova in her role as a Grecian Dancer.  It was created and printed in 1923 in an edition of 55.   This etching is pencil signed and inscribed "print 2"..The image mesures 9 7/8X 6 7/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet. 

This is an original pencil signed color aquatint etching by Austrian artist Tavik F. Simon.  The title of this work is: Saint Nicholas Market in Staromestske Namesti, which was part of his  Prague series, created and printed in 1916.  The edition was 225 impressions.  Printed on a medium weight arches watermarked wove type paper. The image measures 12 5/8X15 1/2 inches.  Very fine condition.  This image appears in the Novak catalog as image number 268.

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist Edmund Blampied.  The title is: Village News. This etching was created and printed in 1931.  It is signed in sepia ink lower border and has the edition noted as 16/100.  The image measures 8 3/4X12 inches.  "Edmund Blampied (1886-1966) was one of the most eminent artists to come from the Channel Islands, yet he received no formal training in art until he was 16 years old. He was noted mostly for his etchings and drypoints published at the height of the print boom in the 1920s during the etching revival."(museum of New Zealand)

This is an original color aquatint etching by Austrian artist Tavik F. Simon.  The title is: Boulevard Saint Martin in Winter, Paris, this pencil signed etching was created and printed in 1914, published by G. Petit, Paris.  The image measures 12 1/4X14 1/4 inches.  It has the Petit blind stamp in the lower left border.

This is a fine original etching by British artist David Young Cameron. The subject and title is: Dinant, This etching was created and printed by the artist in 1907, hand signed in pencil, The image measures 7 15/16X13 15/16 inches.  Printed on a light weight laid type sheet.  This image appears in the Rinder catalog as image number 395.  The edition was thought to be less than 75.  A fine rich impression.

Plate monogrammed in the bottom center. Numbered 227. Plate measures 12 5/8 x 15 inches on 18 1/2 x 19 1/2 inch wove type paper. An atmospheric print with lovely, muted colors. T. F. Simon was born in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Asia and the U.S. He lived in Paris from 1905-1913, then returned to Prague to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts. Simon was an exceptional painter and printmaker, and is best known for his atmospheric color etchings and aquatints.

This is an original etching by French artist Auguste Louis Lepere.  The title is: La Mare de la Prairie, Crèvecoeur, it was created and printed in 1913.  This appears to be an earlier state.  The image measures 6X10 inches.  It has the edition as 27/35.  This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right, printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  THis image appears in the Saunier catalog as image number 404.

A richly inked drypoint etching from 1926. Catalog reference: Gaunt 325. Edition of 53. Pencil signed in the lower right. Plate measures 11 3/4 x 16 3/4 inches on 18 1/4 x 23 1/2 inch wove type paper. Sir Frank Brangwyn was one of the most important British artists of the early 20th century. A member of the Royal Academy, the Royal Watercolor Society, and the Royal Society of British Artists, he was knighted in 1924.
