This is an original etching by French artist Alphonse Legros.  It is a portrait of British etcher Sir Charles Holroyd.  Created circa 1889.  This image has a plate size of 11X7 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right corner of the border.  

"Sir Charles Holroyd was one of the most prolific etchers of his generation. He was taught by Alphonse Legros at the Slade School of Art and his work shows the considerable influence of his close friend William Strang. Sir Charles Holroyd was appointed first Keeper of the Tate Gallery and later Director of the National Gallery. These posts ensured that he did not need to depend upon printmaking for his livelihood; consequently, his etchings were not issued in formal editions. Impressions of his etchings were only taken when required and, as a result, many of his printed works are very scarce indeed.

Alphonse Legros was the single most influential European printmaker upon the development of the etching revival in England. Born in Dijon, Legros was persuaded to move to London by Whistler, whom he had met in Paris. Legros rapidly achieved recognition for his highly accomplished etchings and in 1875 was placed in charge of the etching class at the Royal College in South Kensington and the following year was made Professor of Fine Art at the influential Slade School. It was during his eighteen years in this post that Legros was to exert a formidable influence upon the direction of an entire generation of British printmakers." (  thank you, Mr. Campbell)

 

This is an original etching with drypoint by British artist Seymour Haden.  The title is Cowdray Castle with Geese.  It was created and printed in 1882, this is the forth state of five.  Hand signed in pencil , printed on a laid type paper.  Titled and dated lower left in the image.  The image measures 6X9 1/2 inches.  This image appears in the Schneiderman catalog as image number 208.

This is a fine original wood engraving by Leo Meissner.  It is titled: Chesapeake Boats, created and printed in 1934.  Hand signed, titled and dated in pencil lower border.  The image measures 10X7 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.

This is an original etching by American artist Thomas Moran.  The title of this work is: "A Tower of Cortes, Mexico", it was created and printed in 1883.  The image measures 12X9 3/4 inches.  Very rich impression, plate signed only.  This etching was printed on a medium weight buff toned wove type paper.

This is an original pencil signed and titled woodengraving by American artist Bernard Brussel-Smith. The title of this work is "Shore Leave", it was created and printed in 1941. It has an image size of 6X4 inches and was printed in an edition of only 50 signed proofs.

This is a finely detailed etching by American artist Max Kuehne.  The scene is: New York from Weehawken, N.J.  It was created and printed circa 1930's.  The image measures 10X13 1/2 inches.  Pencil signed and titled in the lower border.  Printed on a J. Whatman medium weight laid type paper.

This is a very richly inked original etching, image size 8 5/8 x 11 1/8 inches, 1939, published by the Print Club, Cleveland, Ohio, plate signed and dated, pencil signed. Edmund Blampied was a very successful artist and illustrator in early 20th century Britain. He illustrated many books and magazines, but is best known for his remarkable skills as a printmaker. He was an important figure in the 'British Etching Revival' of the early 20th century, and was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1920.

A very fine original lithograph by New York artist Harry L Taskey. Image size 11 1/2 x 15 3/4 inches, c. 1935, edition of about 25, published by the New York City WPA Project, pencils signed and titled.

This etching by the British artist Seymour Haden measures 7 x 10 1/4 inches, pencil signed, plate dated 1874, I/V, Cat: Schneiderman-144. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894.

The is a beautiful original wood engraving by American artist Leo Meissner.  The title is: Canyon Grandeur, Sabino Canyon, Arizona.  This pencil signed and titled image was created and printed in 1954.  This is numbered as 7/65.  The image measures 7 1/2X8 1/2 inches.  Beautiful condition.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.

This is an original color etching by American artist Dorsey Potter Tyson.  The title is: Gossip, created and printed in 1928,  This image is hand signed in pencil and numbered as XXXVIII lower left, also indicated that he printed this impression himself.  The image measure 8 1/2X9 1/2 inches.  It was framed and sold by The Casson Galleries in Boston, dated 1929.
