This is the original wood engraving, "Snap the Whip" after the painting by Winslow Homer. This image was from the 1873 printing in Harper's Weekly, this is a rare Double folio size which has the distinctive fold in the center of the image., and a ghost of the type setting from the back of the sheet, typical of these. This is probably the very best of the Wood engravings done of Homers work in the 19th century. The image measures 13 1/2X20 1/2 inches. A few light creases but overall very presentable as it now appears, archivally framed. Beautifully presented.

A very fine sporting etching by Frank Benson, this image measures 9 3/4 x 14 3/4 inches, published in 1924, cat: Ordeman-231, pencil signed below the image, titled on the lower edge of the sheet. Benson was a very successful painter and a member of "The Ten" along with Childe Hassam and J. Alden Weir, before he began his sporting paintings and etchings for which he is most widely known. In 1912, at the age of 50, Benson began his etchings and drypoints, mainly of wild fowl which he depicted with expressive lines and rich toning that exquisitely captured the life and energy of the wild birds. His etchings were in high demand from the very start, and have remained favorites for collectors ever since. He was a founding member of the Boston Guild of Artists and a long time teacher at the Museum School in Boston.

A soft ground etching by German Expressionist artist Lovis Corinth, this image measures 12 1/2 x 9 3/8 inches, published in 1910 in an edition of 50 impressions, state I/III, cat: Schwarz-41,"LC" monogram in the upper left of the image, a faded signature below the image, framed. Corinth began his career studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and went on to study under Bouguereau at the Academie Julian in Paris. He later returned to Germany and became a member and eventually president of the Berlin "Sezession." Corinth is best known for his prints and paintings of figures and portraits.

The image measures 10 1/2X8 3/8 inches.Printed on a watermarked, laid type paper with deckled edge. A rich impression, fine use of drypoint with some hand coloring.
signed in pencil by the artist lower right.. This image appears in the Merrill Chase catalog as image number 69. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase in Chicago.. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.
