Etching with drypoint, C. 1900. Pencil signed in the lower right. There is a repaired tear at the bottom of the print, not in the image. There are also some thin spots on the back of the paper. Plate measures 23 x 13 1/2 inches on 24 1/2 x 16 3/4 inch wove type paper. A well inked, captivating portrait. Helleu began his art career when he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and worked as an apprentice for Theodore Deck, decorating ceramic plates with women's portraits. He became friends with many artists of La Belle Epoch, including John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Tissot, Monet and Rodin, and became well known for his elegant portraits of women of French society. He traveled between France and America, and in 1912 was commissioned to create the astrological ceiling decoration in New York's Grand Central Station.
This is an original color aquatint etching by American artist, John Taylor Arms. The title of this work is "The Birdman" It was created and printed in 1919. This is a very scarce image by Arms. It has a pencil signature, and is editioned as 41/50. It also has the printer Frederick Reynolds name under the artists in the lower border. Very fine condition, printed on watermarked laid type paper. The image measures 7 5/8x5 inches. This image appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 25.

A remarkable etching by James McBey of the New York City skyline from Weehawken, NJ, this etching measures 8 x 14 7/8 inches, 1940, cat: Hardie-277, plate signed and dated, hand signed and numbered "XXVII" in ink. Born into poverty McBey was primarily self-taught, becoming a very well respected artist and leading figure of the British Etching Revival. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, America and the Middle East, creating remarkable etchings of the places he visited. McBey lived in New York for several years, and his images of the city are considered some of his finest work.
This is an original etching by Well known Belle Epoch artist Manuel Robbe (1872-1936) The title of this work is: "Parisienne", it was created and printed in 1906 in an edition of 200, published by Georges Petit. The image measures 19 1/2X13 1/2 inches. It is signed in pencil lower left within the image. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.
This 1928 marine etching by the British printmaker Arthur Briscoe measures 12 1/8 x 8 7/8 inches, hand signed in ink and editioned as 7/75. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. Most of Briscoe's etchings show sailing ships and the men who sailed them. His beautifully etched images present an invaluable historical record of the workings of the last great commercial vessels.
A fine example of the Drypoint work of French artist Jacques VIllon. The title of this work is :"L'Epingle A Chapeau", the hat pin. This image was created and printed in 1909. The image is editioned lower left as 12/20. A rare image. The drypoint measures 15X12 inches, printed on a medium weight, watermarked, laid type paper. very fine condition, a rich impression showing a velvet burr of ink throughout the figure.

A beautiful etching by Sir Francis Seymour Hayden measuring 7 x 13 inches, pencil signed on l.r., Schneiderman cat: 37, state VI/IX, 1860, printed on japan paper, label from Harlow and McDonald included. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law, James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist, he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894. This print was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1861, under "H. Dean," the anagram of Haden.
A truly remarkable original lithograph by Joseph Pennell, this image measures 21 1/8 x 16 5/8 inches, published in 1913 in a very small edition of 50, pencil signed, from Pennell's series of lithographs created in his travels through Italy and Greece. Printed on a cream colored laid type paper with the watermark "Ingres PMF Italia". In his book "In the Land of Temples", Pennell writes of this image, "Night was falling as I was coming back from drawing by the river Ilissos. The subject was the most impressive I saw in the Land of Temples, and in the gathering darkness I drew it as well as I could."
