I/I....The only state created. The plate measures 12 1/2X9 1/4 inches. Signed in the plate lower left, edition is unknown. Printed on a medium weight wove type paper. Catalog: Delteil 18. This is one of his best known etchings.light toning to the sheet, wide borders all around, some repair tape in the lower left corner of the border, well away from the image area.. A strong rich impression of this important image.

One of the finest portrait etchings ever created by British artist Gerald Brockhurst. "Henry Rushbury", created and printed in 1930. Rushbury, like Brockhurst studied at the Birmingham School of Art and the two later shared an apartment in London. Rushbury was an accomplished etcher as well... This is an original hand colored drypoint etching by French artist Paul Cesar Helleu. The title: Femme en profil avec un chapeau. measures a plate mark of 21 1/4X13 1/4 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower right, a superb, richly inked impression with bright colors. Printed on a heavy wove type paper. Helleu began his art career when he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and worked as an apprentice for Theodore Deck, decorating ceramic plates with women's portraits. He became friends with many artists of La Belle Epoch, including John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Tissot, Monet and Rodin, and became well known for his elegant portraits of women of French society. He traveled between France and America, and in 1912 was commissioned to create the astrological ceiling decoration in New York's Grand Central Station.

The image measures 7 1/4X11 1/4 inches. Printed on Shogun watermarked paper. The etching appears in the Ordeman catalog as image number 70. The setting of this image was Fox Island on Penobscot Bay. Eloise ('Fumette') (fl. 1840-1858). Éloise - also called Héloïse - posed for Fumette, Whistler's first partner, Héloïse was a grisette, a vivid and fiery character. A grisette, as described in Henri Murger's Scènes de la vie de Bohème (1848/1851) and Alfred de Musset's poem Mimi Pinson (1845), was a working girl, a young seamstress or milliner, fun-loving and faithful as a lover.
This is an impressionistic original color etching and aquatint by French master of the Belle Epoch, Manuel Robbe (French 1872-1936) The title of this work is:
"Le Bouquet de Violettes", it was created and printed in 1903 in the first edition of only 65 signed proofs. A larger edition was published after the signature was added to the plate. This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right. The image measures 17 1/2X11 3/4 inches. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries, it appears in the Chase catalog as image number 105. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.

Rouault was known to experiment with his etchings, this one not only has aquatint etching but also some roulette work, drypoint and use of a burnisher. A very rich heavily inked impression.
