Drypoint etching C. 1900. Pencil signed in the lower right. A rare print. Repaired tear in the top edge of the paper, not in the image. Thin spots on the back of the paper. An intense and brooding portrait with a rich drypoint burr. Plate measures 21 x 13 inches on 26 x 18 inch wove type paper. Helleu began his art career when he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and worked as an apprentice for Theodore Deck, decorating ceramic plates with women's portraits. He became friends with many artists of La Belle Epoch, including John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Tissot, Monet and Rodin, and became well known for his elegant portraits of women of French society. He traveled between France and America, and in 1912 was commissioned to create the astrological ceiling decoration in New York's Grand Central Station.
This is an original color aquatint etching by American artist, John Taylor Arms. The title of this work is "The Birdman" It was created and printed in 1919. This is a very scarce image by Arms. It has a pencil signature, and is editioned as 41/50. It also has the printer Frederick Reynolds name under the artists in the lower border. Very fine condition, printed on watermarked laid type paper. The image measures 7 5/8x5 inches. This image appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 25.
A very fine original drypoint etching by American Sporting Artist Frank Benson. The title of this work is "The Guide", it was created and printed in 1920 in an edition of 150.
Wonderful use of plate tone in printing of this image. The image measures 6 7/8X10 7/8 inches, printed on a soft Hodamura paper. There are two pressure creases in the lower corners of the image, probably occuring during the printing process but they are unobtrusive and only show up in a raking light. The etching is hand signed by the artist in the lower left border. The image shows the hunters guide leading the way through the shallow water.

Edition of 200. This print is a fine example of Raffaëlli's impressionistic tendencies, with th subtle lighting and the atmospheric sky.
This color aquatint etching by the French Expressionist Georges Rouault measures 12 1/8 x 8 3/8 inches, plate signed, from the "Circus of the Shooting Stars" series, a group of eight color aquatints created in 1930, on Rives BFK laid type paper, initialed and dated in the plate, lower right, edition of 270, cat: Wofsy-212.
A remarkable etching by James McBey of the New York City skyline from Weehawken, NJ, this etching measures 8 x 14 7/8 inches, 1940, cat: Hardie-277, plate signed and dated, hand signed and numbered "XXVII" in ink. Born into poverty McBey was primarily self-taught, becoming a very well respected artist and leading figure of the British Etching Revival. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, America and the Middle East, creating remarkable etchings of the places he visited. McBey lived in New York for several years, and his images of the city are considered some of his finest work.
This is an original color aquatint and drypoint etching by French artist Manuel Robbe. This image is titled "Le Dernier Roman" The plate measures 20 1/2X14 1/2 inches. It is hand signed in pencil in the image and editioned as number 55. This etching is framed and originally sold by Merrill Chase Galleries, label on the back.
Etching and drypoint, early proof of this rare image, image size 7 7/8 x 11 7/8 inches, 1911, cat: Schwartz-76, inscribed "probedruck" (test print) l.l. and signed l.r. both in red crayon, blindstamp l.l. just below image. Corinth began his art career studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and went on to study under Bouguereau at the Academie Julian in Paris. He then returned to Germany and became a member and then president of the Berlin "Sezession".

Briscoe was one of the finest marine artists' of the 20th. century. He studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. Most of Briscoe's etchings show sailing ships and the men who sailed them. His beautifully etched images present an invaluable historical record of the workings of the last great commercial vessels.
