This painting of a lakeside cottage is by American artist Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907) This oil on canvas measures 12X16 inches. Signed lower right corner. Framed in a period carved and gilt molding. Very fine condition, one tiny repair in the upper left, invisible to the eye. His landscapes are his best known works, particularly those of New England, Spain, Italy, England. "Working primarily in oils and watercolors, and using a tighter technique than the emerging impressionists of his time, Smith was a true realist."
This is an original William Preston Phelps painting of Cows watering in a stream. This oil on canvas is clearly signed lower right corner. The image measures 12X18 inches and is in a period gold leaf frame. This painting is in excellent original condition, no flaws or imperfections. Phelps was the well known painter of the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. This work dates to circa 1900.
This is an original oil on canvas by Dutch artist Arnold Marc Gorter (1866-1933) This landscape view with a Man in a row boat is signed lower left. The painting itself measures 15X20 inches. Very nice condition, recently cleaned and varnished. Very minor craquelure in the paint, unobtrusive. Everything is quite stable and very presentable. This painting came to us in a hand carved Gold Frame. Gorter is best known for landscapes and won a gold medal at the Paris salon in 1910.

This is one of the finest etchings by American artist James Whistler. This image titled: "Black Lion Wharf" was from his Thames series created in 1859. This image measures 5 7/8 X 8 3/4 inches. Printed on a laid type paper with watermark. This is an early printing between state iii/iv of iv. Very richly inked with extensive plate tone throughout. Very good condition, signed and dated within the plate at the right side of the image.

This is an original oil on panel by Dutch artist Jan I Peeters (1624-1680) (Attributed to) This view of a Storm swept Harbor is apparently unsigned, oil on panel. The painting measures 17 3/4X23 1/2 inches. Housed in a 19th century gold frame. Very good condition, it has a repair to a split in the panel but invisible from the front.
This is a very fine original oil on board painting by Monadnock artist William Preston Phelps. This 19th century view of a Wooden Bridge, in the forest surrounding Mount Monadnock in Dublin, New Hampshire. This painting measures 12 1/4X22 1/2 inches. It is clearly signed lower center, "W.P.Phelps". The painting came to us in what appears to be the original gilt frame. The painting and frame are in wonderful original untouched condition. We date this work to be circa 1890's. A beautiful summer scene in the wooded forest of New Hampshire.
This is an incredibly detailed, atmospheric Norwegian landscape of a small cabin at the edge of a fjord, the distant hills fading into a soft morning mist. It is painted in oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches, 1871, clearly signed "A Rasmussen 71" in the lower right corner, in an ornate period gilt frame.
This is an original oil on board painting by Canadian artist Albert Edward Cloutier ((1902-1965) Signed lower center, this painting has an image area of
29X35 inches. It came to us in what appears to be the original frame with the Walter Klinkhoff Gallery,Montreal, label on the back. The title of this work is:
"Winter Lac Ouimet, Mont Tremblant", it is a view of the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. Albert Cloutier was a painter, commercial artist and muralist who grew up in Montreal. He also lived in Ottawa and during his time as a war artist was posted in several locations in eastern Canada. He was a member of the R.C.A. and also the CSGA. He moved to Saint-Hilaire, Quebec in 1959 where he lived the rest of his life. His mediums were primarily oils and graphics. His subjects were landscapes, commercial art and (during the war)the military. His style was expressionist and greatly influenced by the Group of Seven.
He studied art under A.Y.Jackson and Edwin Holgate. And from 1955 until 1965 he taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal.
This is a beautiful cast bronze portrait of a young girl by Italian/American artist Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta. The bust is 14 inches tall and stands on a 6 inch base. signed by the artist on the lower corner, dated 1912, with a Benjamin Zoppo, New York foundry mark. Scarpitta was born in Italy and graduated from the Royal Italian Academy before emigrating to America. He was a very successful sculptor, creating commissions for the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building, the Church of St John the Evangelist and Church of the Sacred Blood, as well as portraits of Mussolini, Marlene Dietrich, and Frank Springer; in 1914 he was awarded the Bartlett Prize from the National Academy of Design.
This is a fine hand colored drypoint etching by French artist Paul Cesar Helleu. This portrait is of the artist's daughter Ellen. Created and printed in 1897 this etching measures 13X12 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower left border. Printed in a sepia toned ink and some touches of hand coloring.
This oil on canvas painting of an Autumn Stream was the work of American Tonalist Franklin de Haven (1856-1934). This painting measures 30X24 inches. It is signed lower right corner and was created circa 1918. A fine tonalist study of a stream at a lower angle of view. de Haven was a member of the Salmagundi Club where he had numerous shows and won many awards for his impressionistic works of art. This painting was quite similar to the one illustrated on page 464 of the Cleveland Book on American Tonalism.
This is an original etching by American artist James M Whistler. The title is "Eagle Wharf", this image was created and printed in 1859. Signed and dated within the plate. The image measures 5 7/16X8 5/16 inches. It is printed on a thin Japan paper which is rare. This is the only known state before the plate was cancelled. Its is from is series of Sixteen etchings on the Thames. (The Thames Set) A very fine impression. Annotated lower left border, "'Tyzac Whiteley & Co" an alternate title. catalog number is K-41.
