The Dunes at Sunrise

This is an original oil on canvas painting by American Cape Ann artist: Charles Paul Gruppe.  This view of a family on the dunes, created circa 1930's has an image size of 14X20 inches.  It is signed lower right Cha P Gruppe.  It is housed in a fine Hassam  style gilt frame.  A very fine impressionist view of the dunes at sunrise.

This is a very fine original oil on panel painting by Belgium artist Theodore Gerard (1829-1895) This interior scene of a mother and her children is titled: "Tea", the painting is signed "The Gerard, 1865" in the lower right corner. The painting measures 22X28 inches. On the back of the panel is written: "'The. Gerard Je soussigné déclare que le tableau ci conte est original. Bruxelles Décembre 1865.' , it translates to Gerard 1, the undersigned declare that this work is original Dec. 1865" The painting is in a modern custom frame.

River Scene at sunset

This is an original oil on canvas painting by European/American artist Hendrick Dirk Kruseman Van Elten. The subject of this painting is a river scene at sunset. It measures 12X22 inches, signed Kruseman Van Elten Lower right corner. The painting is in a period gilt frame. This painting was most likely from the late 19th century, circa 1870's.

The Forest Glade, Fontainbleu

This is an original oil on panel painting by French Barbizon master Narcisse Diaz de la Pena. Circa 1860, this view of a peasant woman in the forest has a panel size of 12 1/2X15 7/8 inches, it is signed lower right Diaz. "Diaz was born in Bordeaux to Spanish parents. At the age of ten, Diaz became an orphan, Díaz exhibited many pictures at the Paris Salon, and was decorated in 1851. During the Franco-German War he went to Brussels. After 1871, his works became fashionable and rose gradually in the estimation of collectors, and he worked constantly and successfully.

Modernist Floral Still Life

This is an original oil on paper modernist floral still life. No visible signature, The sight size is 13X10 1/2 inches, nicely framed with a linen mat and white fillet. The work looks to be early European 20th century. In the style of Odilon Redon. Very thickly painted. Over all frame measures 28X21 inches

The Farmers wife

This is a fine original oil on canvas painting by American artist Charles Paul Gruppe (1860-1940) This study of a Farmwife at work was created circa 1880 prior to his moving to the USA in 1914. It is signed "Gruppe" lower right corner. The canvas measures 10X14 inches and came to us in what appears to be the original frame with the gallery label on the back: "Goupils" This well known New York painting dealer opened his gallery in 1848 and was later bought out by Knoedler. This was one of the earliest galleries in the USA to promote American as well as european paintings.

Portrait of a young girl picking flowers

This is an original oil on canvas painting of a Young Woman picking Flowers. The painting is signed lower right, it reads "Hildebrandt", the first initials are a bit rubbed and so hard to read. We are attributing this work to Howard Hildebrandt the American artist who was known to paint similar works. The painting measures 30X25 inches and comes in a victorian period picture frame. There are a few spots of touch up mostly at the bottom of her dress and the upper edge of the sky. The painting could use a light cleaning but is very presentable just as it now appears.

Sunset Glow

This is an original oil on canvas painting by American artist Frank Vining Smith (1879-1967) This painting is clearly signed lower right corner. This painting although in the catalog is titled: "Sunset Glow" on the back of the canvas is an alternate title: "The New Moon" The canvas measures 22X30 inches and comes in a fine custom gilt frame. This painting was originally sold through Anderson Galleries in Chicago. They promoted Smiths works in the late 1920's.

Sailing in Moonlight

This is an original oil on canvas painting of a sailing ship in moonlight. This painting is signed Edward Moran lower left corner. The canvas measures 20X16 inches. It comes housed in a period gilt deep frame. Born in England, Edward Moran is best known for his marine paintings, and is credited with the Moran family's entry into the art world.
He and his brother studied and shared a studio in Philadelphia and then both returned for a time to England. While there they were heavily influenced by the paintings of J M W Turner
