Promising Puppy

This etching by the American artist Joseph Schaldach measures 6 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches and is pencil signed. Schaldach followed his lifelong passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors in his many etchings, aquatints and drypoints. Moving from his home state of Indiana to NYC, he sold fishing tackle during the day and attended the Art Students League during the evening where he learned his craft under the watchful eye of John Sloan and George Bridgman.

Windsor from Eton

This 1903 etching by the American artist Joseph Pennell measures 5 1/2 x 12 inches, pencil signed, cat: Worth-282, Frederick Keppel label on back, artist proof, framed. Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography. Pennell was known for his continued experimentation with technique and style, producing cityscapes, landscapes and marine scenes.

Day Sail

This image measures 6 7/8 x 9 7/8 inches and is pencil signed, c.1930. Philip Kappel was born in Hartford, Connecticut and educated at the Pratt Institute in New York. He was employed as an artist for several shipping companies and much of his work documents these ships and their sailors. At age 26, Kappel was the youngest person ever admitted to "Who's Who in America."

The Sentinel Pine

Etching measuring 9 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches by the American artist, George Elbert Burr, pencil signed, cat: Seeber-135. Burr was an American printmaker and painter best known for his etchings and drypoints of expansive views of the Sonoran and Mojave deserts.

West Quoddy Light

"West Quoddy Light" by the American artist Stevan Dohanos measures 10 x 8 inches, pencil signed and titled. Dohanos was an Ohio born commercial artist, illustrator and fine artist who first studied at the Cleveland School of Art and went on to illustrate for McCall's, the Saturday Evening Post and Esquire. His paintings and prints have been displayed in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and Dartmouth College.

Bridge At Sospel

This 1950 etching by the American artist Ernest Roth measures 9 x 12 inches, pencil signed, dated and plate titled. Created as a presentation print for the Society of American Etchers, Gravers, Lithographers and Woodcutters in 1951. Included is a analysis and appreciation of Roth's work by the president of the society, John Taylor Arms.

Bunch of Bluebills

This etching with drypoint on copper by Frank Benson measures 4 x 5 inches, pencil signed, 1931, cat: Ordeman-312, edition of 300. Benson was a founding member of the Boston Guild of Artists and a long time teacher at the Museum School in Boston. In 1912, at the age of 50, Benson began his etchings and drypoints, mainly of wild fowl which he depicted with expressive lines and rich toning that exquisitely captured the life and energy of the wild birds. His etchings were in high demand from the very start, and have remained favorites for collectors ever since.
