20th Century American Prints

This is an original etching by California artist John Winkler.  The title is: Delicatessen Booth, San Francisco, created circa 1920 this etching is hand signed in pencil lower left border.  The image measures 11X6 1/2 inches.  " Winkler studied at the California Institute of Arts and published his first original etching in 1915. During the following eight years he established a large national reputation for his etchings, the great majority being depictions of San Francisco and its environs...Like Whistler, Winkler had the ability to capture life and movement with the utmost simplicity." A great original etching by Leonard Baskin, from his 'Portraits of 10 Artists' series. Plate size 14 1/2 x 17 5/8 inches, published in 1964 in an edition of 50 by Herman D. Schickman, Delphic Arts, New York, cat: Fern & O'Sullivan- 473, pencil signed, titled, and numbered "31/50".

Aphrodite

Etching, image size 9 3/8 x 5 3/8 inches, pencil signed and titled. Hobbs was a well known artist from Ohio who studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago. He traveled extensively through Europe and the US before settling in New Orleans. He won many awards and honors for his work, and spent two summers as a resident at the MacDowell Art Colony in Peterborough, NH.

This 1936 etching by the American artist Walter Locke measures 11 7/8 x 8 1/4 inches, pencil signed, dated and titled. AAA label with artist provenance included, edition of 250, c. 1938.

Drypoint etching, image size 9 7/8 x 7 1/4 inches, 1926, edition of 80, cat. Smith-130, pencil signed lower right. A beautiful etching in excellent condition. Provenance: Baldwin-Wallace College.

A fine Luigi Lucioni etching, Elm on the Hill, created and printed in  1948 published by Associated American Artists in New York in an editiion of 250.  This pencil signed impression measures 12 1/4X9 7/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  The image appears as number 105 in the Embury catalog.

Drypoint etching from 1927. Edition of 80. Plate signed in the top left, pencil signed in the bottom right. Inscription on bottom left of plate reads "Carrara '27". Plate measures 9 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches on 14 x 11 1/4 inch laid type paper. Catalog: Smith 136.

A richly toned etching by George Hand Wright measuring 8 7/8 x 11 7/8 inches, pencil signed and titled. George Wright studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Paris and Munich before settling in New York where he was an illustrator for Harper's and The Saturday Evening Post. He exhibited at the Art Students League and was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the Society of American Etchers.

This is an original etching by New England artist Phillip Little.  This view of sailboats at sunset was created and printed in 1915 in an edition of 25.  This one is numbered as 1.  It is pencil signed and dated, printed on a thin japan type paper.  The image measures 9 3/4X8 inches.
