This engraving by George Vertue of the Chief Justice, Sir Matthew Hale, measures 12 x 7 inches. Created in 1735 from an original painting by Michael Wright, it has inscribed on the lower margin "Michael Wright pinx.; From an Original painting in Guildhall, London; and George Vertue Sculp. 1735." Hale was a well-known and respected judge and jurist and his writings have been cited as recently as 1993.
This illustrative page from "The Great Mirror of Folly", 1720, was a volume of text with 76 engraved plates, documenting the international joint-stock scandal instigated by John Law. This great "Theater of Folly", representing the origin, progress, and downfall of the South Sea Bubble in France, England and Holland, is a collection of engraved plates with caricatures of the schemes of John Law and the Mississippi Company that lured clients to invest in establishing colonies in Louisiana and Canada with fatal results. This rare engraving by John Sartain, after Da Cortona, measures 17 x 11 3/8 inches on heavy weight laid type paper. Part of a fresco painted by Da Cortona in the Duomo at Orvieto Cathedral in Italy. Published in London by William Young Ottley in May of 1825. Plate number at top right.
This etching attributed to Nicolaes Berchem measures 10 1/4 x 8 1/8 inches. Berchem was a well-known Dutch painter and etcher who created many pastoral landscapes often with biblical themes.

This series of thirteen townscapes are images of shipping ports, market places, hotels, busy neighborhoods, historical buildings, castles, and cathedrals all surrounded by the element of water. They show the interplay and the importance of the waterways to the towns and their dependance on each other. Individual prints are titled in Dutch at the top center and were done c. 1660-1690.
This 1623 engraving by Ottavio Leoni measures 5 5/8 x 4 3/8 inches. It is a portrait bust of the artist Antonio Tempesta in a 12 sided frame. Bartsch 38. A collection seal is stamped on the back. Leoni did a series of 12 engraved portraits of fellow artists including Michelangelo, which is the only documented portrait of him by another artist.
