Recent Acquisitions

This is a rare color etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  The title is: Early Morning, North River, created and printed in  1921.  This color impression was printed in an edition of only 25 impressions.  It was also printed in Black and White in an edition of 100.  The image measures 9 1/2X7 1/2 inches.  Very good condition Signed in pencil lower right.  Created with a combination of etching and aquatint.  This image appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 100.

This is a fine impression of the well known Whistler etching, Bibi Lalouette, created in 1859.  Cataloged as Kennedy 51, II/II  .  The image measures 9X6 inches, printed on a thin Japan type sheet,  "This curly-haired little boy sitting on the edge of a bed comes from a series of portraits that Whistler made in 1858-59. Known by the pet name of Bibi, the child was son to J. M. Lalouette who ran a small hotel and restaurant at 5 rue de l'Odéon in Paris. Whistler often ate there and left a large unpaid bill when he moved to London. In August 1860 he sent partial payment, eliciting a relieved response from Monsieur Lalouette that mentions Bibi often talked of the artist, and noting the family's pride in their own impression of the present work". This is a scarce original etching by American artist Margaret M. Taylor (Fox)  The title is A November Morning, it was created and printed in 1891.  The image measures 4 7/8X7 3/4 inches.  Plate signed lower left corner.  The only other impression we could find is in the Smithsonian Collection.  Taylor was a member of the Women etchers of the 19th Century, studying under Peter Moran.

This is an original aquatint etching by British artist George Soper.  The title is: Gathering Seaweed In a Cave, created and printed circa 1920.  The image measures 7 1/2X10 1/4 inches.  Chris Beetles catalog as image number 280.  This image is numbered as 12/25 and signed lower right but with a  different name.  Perhaps it was a gift to the name shown.  A very rich impression, framed.

This is an original period printing of The Antoni Waterloo etching, Mercury and Argus.  This etching is the 2nd state of three showing the artist initials upper left corner, a proof before letters, The image is in the Barsch catalog as image number 127ii.  The image measures 11 1/2X9 1/2 inches.  The sheet measures 14X11 1/8 inches.   Collectors annotations and stamps on the back of the sheet, From the A. Coppenrath and Frierich Kalla, Moscow collection.  Good condition some light foxing.  Printed on an early laid paper with a Clown and Fools Cap watermark in the sheet.  A rare untouched impression, good borders all around.

This is a very rare original drypoint etching by French artist Jean-Louis Forain, the title is C'est Fini, this drypoint was created and printed circa 1890, there was a later Verticle composition with the same name.  This image measures 9 1/2X12 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet,.  Weve been unable to find another example of this scarce drypoint.  Hand signed in pencil lower right.

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist Edmund Blampied.  The title is: Agents of Change, created and printed in 1932.  This is numbered as 23/100 and hand signed in sepia ink lower border.  The image measures 6 3/4X9 3/4 inches.  This image appears in the Appleby catalog as image number 156, printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.

This is an original Revolutionary war period engraving by Robert Pollard .   The subject is: "Lady Harriet Ackland Harrowed on the Hudson" In 1777.  This engraving is hand colored and appears to be a period printing done in London in 1784.  The image measures 15 1/4X20 5/8 inches.  The sheet has been professionally adhered to a support sheet and a few tears in the lower margin have been repaired. The borders on three sides have been trimmed to just outside the platemark.  The writing under the image appears to be complete.  The Engravers information appears just under the image: London: Robert Pollard, Brayne’s Row Spa Fields, 1784. Overall this is a very presentable engraving just as it now appears.  "A scarce engraving celebrating the pluck of Lady Harriet Ackland, shown here in a boat on the Hudson River going to the aid of her injured husband, who was captured by the Americans during the Battle of Saratoga.
