Recent Acquisitions

This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Helen Noel.  The title is: The Nude and the Nun, created and printed circa 1930's.  The image measures 14 1/4X10 inches, printed on a Besingwerk watermarked sheet.  Helen Noel was employed in Chicago's District 10 Art Division of the Works Progress Administration WPA Federal Art Works Program.

This is an original etching by well known Swedish artist Anders Zorn.  The title is: Dal River, created and printed in 1919.  This impression measures 7X4 5/8 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.  hand signed in pencil lower right.  This image appears in the Asplund catalog as image number 284.  One of his series of nude bathers that he is well known for.

This is a fine impression of the well known Whistler etching, Rotherhithe, It was created in 1860 as part of his Thames Set, published as a portfolio in 1871.  The image measures 10 3/4X7 3/4 inches.  Signed and dated in the plate, lower left.  This impression was last sold by Frederick Keppel in New York City, the label came with this etching.  Although in very fine condition and a rich early impression, this has been laid down by the edges of the sheet which was typical of the works coming from Keppel.  The sheet is not laid down entirely, just the very edges of the sheet. On fine simile Japan paper, with good margins, as issued.  "Rotherhithe has always been the most sought-after of Whistler’s Thames Set works and is widely regarded as one of his greatest etchings. The largest plate in the set, it demonstrates to the full the extraordinary abilities of this great master as an original etcher."  Glasgow catalog as image 70, state VI/VI..  The plate was destroyed after this edition was printed.  This etching is framed with archival materials.

 

This is an original drypoint and aquatint etching by French artist Jacques VIllon, The title is: Petite boudeuse, created and printed in 1905 in an edition of 50.  Hand signed in pencil, the image printed in sepia ink measures 13 3/4X9 inches.  This image appears in the Ginestet/Pouillon catalog as image number 129 ii/ii.

This is an original pencil signed etching by American artist Chauncey Ryder.  The title is: New Boston Farm, created and printed circa 1920's.  The image measures 7 1/2X9 1/4 inches.  Titled in pencil lower left corner of the sheet.

THis is a fine original lithograph by Chicago artist Helen Noel.  This pencil signed impression showing a group waiting for the subway was created and printed circa 1940's.  The image measures 9X11 inches, some minor spots of rust, unobtrusive.

This is a rare original lithograph by Chicago artist Helen Noel.  The image is hand signed and titled in pencil: Rhythm, created mid 1940's.  The image measures 11X11 3/4 inches.  Numbered as 6/10.  Some minor condition issues, unobtrusive.  A fine view of Dancers in a music hall.

This is an original engraving by French artist Albert Decaris.  The title is "The Andalusian," created and printed in 1931, This pencil signed impression measures 17 1/2X19 1/2 inches. Numbered as 18/100.  Nicely Framed with archival boards.

This is an original etching with aquatint and drypoint by French artist Louis Legrand.  The title is: L'Habillage (Dressing)   a back stage view done for  the La Petite Classe, a series of 12 images  that Legrand created as a portfolio in  1908.  The image measures 16 3/4X11 3/4 inches.  This was the 4th state of 5 which includes the Remarque of a racehorse, printed in an edition of 30.  Signed in pencil and numbered,14/30.  This image appears in the Arwas catalog as image number 369.  This etching printed on a buff toned sheet is archivally framed.  This image was used as the cover of the Arwas catalog.

Biography Saito, Kaoru (1931 - )

Saito Kaoru was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1931. He studied Fine Art under Tsuruta Gorō and Arai Tatsuo from 1948-1950. He became a member of the Shunyo-kai and he is mainly known for his mezzotints. He has had countless exhibitions, and he is generally considered one of Japan's finest mezzotint artists. He now lives in Hayama, also in Kanagawa.

This is a beautiful color aquatint etching by the French artist Auguste Brouet.  The title is: Arabesque,  created and printed in 1920 in an edition of 250, this impression is numbered 155/250.  Hand signed in pencil, A ballet scene with two dancers performing an arabesque. At the back an opulent stage set, with other performers standing in the wings.  The image measures 10 3/4X15 inches.  This etching is in fine condition, beautfully Framed with archival materials.

This is a pencil signed rare etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The title written in the artists hand is The Monument from the Palatine, Rome,1911.  This etching has an alternate titled of Old and New Rome, as what appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 622.  the image measures 12 1/4X9 1/4 inches. The edition is noted as 40.  "The Palatine Hill, which relative to the seven hills of Rome is the centremost, is one of the most ancient parts of the city; it has been called "the first nucleus of the Roman Empire".  This  etching is framed.

This is an original etching by French Artist Georges Gobo (1876-1958)  This image of Women Harvesting Potatoes is hand signed in pencil, numbered 15/30 and has an image size of 7 3/4X11 5/8 inches.  It is framed with archival boards.
