Recent Acquisitions

This is an original oil on canvas painting by American 19th century painter, James Mcdougal Hart.  This work is titled: A Bit of Cherry Valley.  It is signed lower left "J.M Hart"  It came to us in a period gilt frame with the brass name plate.  The painting itself measures 17X21 inches, the overall frame measures 24X29 inches.  Influenced by his older brother, William M. Hart, and with him is highly regarded as an important member of the second generation of Hudson River School landscape painters. Hart's family came to America in 1831,  After the 1870s, he and his brother William opened studios in Keene Valley, NY, in the heart of the Adirondacks. James' paintings often feature cows watering amidst an idyllic summer landscape.  Cherry Valley is a town in Otsego County, New York,

This is a fine drypoint etching by American artist Phillip Kappel.  The title is: Willemstad, Curacao, it was created and printed  Circa. 1930.  The image is pencil signed and titled by the artist.  The image measures 6 7/8X8 7/8 inches.  Fine use of plate tone in the sea and sky.

This is a fine original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Lord.  The title is: Fantasy in Blue, created and printed circa 1925.  This image is pencil signed and numbered as 39/75.  The image measures 13 3/4X10 1/4 inches.  Printed on a thin Japan type sheet.

This is a fine pencil signed and dated  lithograph by American artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi.  This image created and printed in 1928, has an image size of 11X6 inches, printed on an ivory toned chine colle, adhered to a thicker supporting sheet.  This lithograph is numbered as 28/30.  Very fine condition apart from a line of toning in the border where an earlier window mat once lay.  Catalog as Davis L-30.

This is a fine original lithograph by British artist Clara Klinghoffer.  This study of a seated nude has an image size of  13 3/4X11 7/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet, hand signed in pencil lower right.

This is an original drypoint etching by American artist Mary Cassatt.  The title is Denise holding her Child, created in 1905, this image is the first state of two, printed on an Ivory  laid type sheet.  The image measures 8X5 3/4 inches.  Unsigned as issued.  This image appears in the Breeskin catalog as image number 204.  

Charles Adams Platt
This is a scarce etching by American artist Charles Adams Platt.  It is titled: The Harbor of Naples,  it was created and printed in 1887.  The image measures 5X7 5/8 inches.  Pencil signed lower right border, printed with a sepia toned ink printed on a laid type sheet.
 

This is a pencil signed etching by Charles Adams Platt, created and printed in 1882 the image is titled: A Provincial Fishing Village.  The image mesures 2 3/4X4 7/8 inches.  Printed with sepia toned ink.  Signed and dated in the plate.

This is an original etching with drypoint by American artist James E. Allen.  This image is titled: Flying Flamingoes.  This pencil signed impression measures 6 3/4X13 7/8 inches.  Annotated to Harold Shin, 1935.  A fine impression, a little light toning in the borders away from the image area.  Printed on a light weight wove type sheet.  Matted not framed.

This is an original etching by American Ash Can School artist John Sloan.  The title is: Boys Sledding,  it was created and printed in 1920 in an edition of 100.  This impression is hand signed in pencil, titled and annotated a "100 Proofs in the lower border.  The image mesures 5 1/4X6 15/16 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet, with tack  holes where the artist held the sheet down to dry.  Very fine condition.

This is a fine  pencil signed etching by American artist Edith Penman (1860-1929)  The title is Landscape, thought to be the Orchard at St. John's College, created and printed in 1888.  This etching has an image size 3 1/4X4 7/8 inches.  Printed on Japanese vellum paper.  Another impression of this etching is in the collection of The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton.  Nicely framed with archival matting.

This is a large original lithograph by British artist Clara Klinghoffer.  This image is titled: Mexican Mother and Child, created and printed circa 1930's, this image is pencil signed, titled and numbered as 20/100.  Printed on a heavy weight wove type sheet.  The image measures 15 3/4X20 inches.

This is one of the finest color block prints by French artist Paul Jacoulet.  The title: Retour De La Jungle, Tondano: Celebes, This image was created and printed in 1948, Pencil signed, with the Sparrow seal.  This image measures 15 3/4X12 inches.  The artist used a fine coral powder to give dimension to the compositional colors.  He also experimented with Gofun, an egg white derivative that produced a rich opaque effect.  This image appears in the Jacoulet catalog as image number 90.  Nicely framed, this wood block is in beautiful condition.

This is an original pencil signed etching and drypoint by American artist Otto Bacher 1856-1909.  The title is: The Bridge, Schleissheim,  created and printed in 1879.The image measures 5 1/8X7 7/8 inches.  The platemark measures 5 7/8X8 3/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.   A fine rich impression.  Some very light even toning to the sheet but very presentable as it now appears.

This is a fine regionalist etching by American artist Jackson Lee Nesbitt.  The title is: Evening in March, it was created and printed in 1942.  The image measures 11 3/4X8 5/16 inches.  Hand signed and titled in pencil.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.
