Etching with drypoint, image size 15 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches, c. 1890, edition of 20, pencil signed. Helleu began his art career when he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and worked as an apprentice for Theodore Deck, decorating ceramic plates with women's portraits. He became friends with many artists of La Belle Epoch, including John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Tissot, Monet and Rodin, and became well known for his elegant portraits of women of French society. The young girl in this portrait is Helleu's daughter Ellen.

This is an incredible drypoing etching  by American artist Gerald Geerlings.  The title is: "Grand Canal, America. (Electrical Building at Night.) "  It was created and printed in 1933, it is inscribed as "Prize etching of the Chicago Fair, 1933" in pencil lower left border and also, signed and gifted to Tom Caitheart with Best wishes" in pencil. The image measures 11 7/8X8 7/8 inches.  In excellent condition.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  The subject is from "Chicago Century of Progress World’s Fair " in 1933.  "Born In Milwaukee Wis. Lithographer illustrator architect writer industrial designer Studied at Milwaukee State Teachers College;University Of Pennsylvania; Royal College Of Art London with Malcom Osborne; St. John's College Cambridge University."

This is a very cool lithograph on zinc, image size 12 5/8 x 17 7/8 inches, 1919-1920, from a very small edition of 27 or fewer impressions, cat: Czestochowski-134, printed by Bolton Brown, pencil signed. Provenance: The Cleveland Museum of Art. Davies was a truly remarkable artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries known for his dreamlike etchings and lithographs. In his catalog raisonne of Davies work, Czestochowski writes "In a time of social, political, scientific and artistic upheaval, Davies hewed to an unwavering inner vision, one of classically graceful figures in an eternal dance with nature." This image is a beautiful homage to the ancient Greeks, which Davies portrays in his distinctive style that is at once quite classical and quite modern.

Lithograph, image size 15 3/8 x 18 inches, 1932, pencil signed. Born in Poland, Max Weber emigrated to Brooklyn, New York with his family at the age of 10. He went on to study art at the Pratt Institute in Boston, then traveled to Europe where he was influenced by the groundbreaking work of Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Henri Rousseau. Weber returned to America, bringing with him the cubist and modernist ideas and techniques that he learned in Europe, and is considered by many to be one of the forefathers of American modernism.

This atmospheric etching is a great example of the delicate lines and precise detail for which Arms was known. This image won several awards in the early 1940s; the Mrs. Henry F Noyes Memorial Prize for best print at the 27th Annual Exhibition of the Society of American Etchers, New York, N.Y. 1943; the First Prize in Black and White Section at the 12th Annual Exhibition of the Irvington Art and Museum Association, Irvington, N. J. 1945; and the First Prize in Black and White at the Annual Art Exhibition of the Bridgeport Art League, Bridgeport, CT. 1945.

This is a very grand watercolor by noted British artist Joseph Nash (1808-1878). The sight size of this painting is 26 1/8 x 18 3/4 inches, it was painted in 1846 and is signed and dated in the lower right corner. Joseph Nash studied art and architecture with Augustus Charles Pugin, becoming known for his finely detailed images of British architecture, from cathedrals to castles and manors. He would very often place a group of people in the foreground of his compositions, in a way that brought life and energy to the architecture, as can be seen in this image. Nash was a member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours and frequently exhibited his work there as well as at the Royal Academy, The British Institution, and The New Watercolour Society.

This dramatic scene by Arthur Brisco measures 8 x 11 3/4 inches and is ink signed and numbered. Published in 1924 on laid paper, cat: Hurst-94, framed. Briscoe was one of the finest marine artists' of the 20th. century. He studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. Most of Briscoe's etchings show sailing ships and the men who sailed them. His beautifully etched images present an invaluable historical record of the workings of the last great commercial vessels.

Helleu began his art career when he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and worked as an apprentice for Theodore Deck, decorating ceramic plates with women's portraits. He became friends with many artists of La Belle Epoch, including John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Tissot, Monet and Rodin, and became well known for his elegant portraits of women of French society. He traveled between France and America, and in 1912 was commissioned to create the astrological ceiling decoration in New York's Grand Central Station.

This is an original etching by Well known Belle Epoch artist Manuel Robbe (1872-1936) The title of this work is: "Parisienne", it was created and printed in 1906 in an edition of 200, published by Georges Petit. The image measures 19 1/2X13 1/2 inches. It is signed in pencil lower left within the image. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.
