Drawings

This is an original drybrush drawing on illustration board by American artist Stow Wengenroth.  This drawing was done as a study for his lithograph, Rock Shadows, created and printed in 1970.  This work done on a Strathmore Illustration board is signed in ink lower right corner, the image measures 13X23 inches.  Very nice condition.  The lithograph Rock Shadows appears in the Stuckey catalog as image number 332.  It was done in Rockport Mass and finished in Greenport N.Y.  According to the catalog description this was drawn from the Edge of an old quarry in Rockport.  This was a gift from the artist to the former owner who sold it to our gallery...This drawing is archivally framed.

Thiss is an original ink drawing by American Modernist Leonard Baskin.  This view of a standing man is hand signed lower right and dated 1954.  The image measures 25  1/2X8 1/2 inches.  It was drawing on an antique laid type paper.  A combination of pen and ink and pencil.  This drawing is framed in a 32X16 inch frame.  The sheet is floating, not glued down.

Ink and wash, image size 9 3/4 x 13 7/8 inches, inscribed on reverse "J. Bosch 1773 in de manier van N. Berchem met stoffazie na A.v.d.Velde" (In the manner of Nicolae Berchem [Dutch, 1620-1683] and Adriaen van de Velde [Dutch, 1636-1672]), framed.

This is an original watercolor and ink wash illustration done for the Book of James Riley Poems of Childhood.  Identified at the bottom as Frontispiece Page 6.  Published by Grosset and Dunlap, Chicago.  The image measures 11 1/4X9 1/2, unsigned, but can be found in the published book.  Done on illustration board which measures 20X15 inches.

This is an original charcoal and watercolor drawing by French Master artist Jacques Villon.  This view of a young woman is hand signed in pencil lower left.  The image measures 7X4 1/2 inches, nicely framed.  A fine belle epoque image circa 1900.  

This is an original group of illustrations, all on a common illustration board for the work, Poems of Childhood by James Whitcomb RIley, published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1940.  Two are titled: Uncle Sidneys Logic and The Old Haymow.  These are done with watercolor and inkwash, unsigned but easy to identify in the finished book that it was done for.  The illustration board measures 20X15 inches.

This is an original pen and ink illustration for the Oscar Wilde story, The Happy Prince.  This image is signed, E. Shinn and dated 1940.  This book was   Published by the Literary Guild of American Inc. in 1940.  This work done on illustration board, the board measures 15X12 inches.

This is an original ink wash illustration by American artist Everett Shinn.  It was done for the book, James W. Riley Poems of Childhood, published by Gosset and Dulap, Chicago.  The board measures 20X15 inches, no signature on this illustration, but can be viewed in the published book, by Riley.  1943.

This is an original pen and ink illustration done for the Story by Oscar Wilde, The Birthday of the Infanta.  This illustration was done for the book published by J.C. Winston, 1940, Philadelphia.   This image titled at the top edge The Infantas Birthday is on  illustration board which measures 18X14 inches, signed with the artist's initials lower right.

This is an original watercolor painting by American artist Chester Russell Loomis.  This 19th century painting of sailboats at sunrise has a  site size of 5X10 3/4 inches.  It is housed in what appears to be the original gold frame with gilt matting.  The frame measures 10 X15 3/4 inches.  The painting is hand signed C.R. Loomis lower right corner.  A few very light foxing marks, unobtrusive.  The work looks very fine just as it now appears.
