This is an original oil on canvas painting by American artist De Scott Evans (David Scott Evans) This portrait was created on a trip to Jamaica which he visited in 1894. THe painting is clearly signed De Scott Evans, dated Jan 1894, and identified as being in Spanish Town, Jamaica, West Indies. The painting measures 20X16 inches. In good shape one tiny puncture, about 1/4 inch in the lower part of her dress. Evan's Jamaican paintings are very rare. Evans was a well known portrait painter and also known to have painted several trompe l'oeil works He usually signed "De Scott Evans" on his works. Four years later while sailing to Paris on the La Bourgogne, the ship sank and Evans and his family were lost. Evans studied under Albert Beaugureau in Cincinnati, and later at the Académie Julian, Paris with Wm. A. Bouguereau in Paris, 1877.
