20th Century European Prints

This etching by the Czech artist, Tavik F. Simon, measures 7 3/4 x 4 5/8 inches, pencil signed, 1914, cat: Novak-229, in an edition of 150. Simon studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Asia and the U.S. He lived in Paris from 1905-1913, then returned to Prague to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts. He was an exceptional painter and printmaker, and is best known for his atmospheric color etchings and aquatints.

Pencil signed in the lower right, pencil titled in the lower left. Plate measures 5 1/2 x 9 inches on 8 3/4 x 11 1/2 inch watermarked laid type paper. Artist's monogram blindstamp in the lower left. (Henry) Jackson Simpson was an Aberdeen painter and etcher of mainly local landscapes, seascapes, birds and animals.

This 1929 etching and drypoint by Adolphe Beaufrere of a beach resort, measures 5 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches. It is pencil signed and numbered with a blindstamp of the publisher, Sagot, on the lower right.

This is a fine original etching and aquatint by British artist  Douglas Ian Smart.  The title is: Washerwomen, Gerona Italy, it is hand signed in pencil, Created circa 1920 this image measures 6X13 1/8 inches.

This 1898 mezzotint by the British artist Sir Frank Short, measures 7 x 10 1/8 inches, pencil signed, after J.M.W. Turner, cat: Hardie-65.

An atmospheric etching of a Spanish courtyard by Australian artist Lionel Lindsay, this image measures 9 3/4 x 5 1/8 inches, published in 1927 in an edition of 60, pencil signed, numbered and titled.

This is a very richly inked original etching by Australian artist Lionel Lindsay, based on his travels through Spain in the early 1900s. The image size is 5 3/8 x 11 1/4 inches, c. 1927, pencil signed and titled.

A richly inked original etching with aquatint, this image measures 6 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches, c. 1930, pencil signed.

This 1923 etching by the British artist Ernest Stephen Lumsden measures 9 x 12 3/4 inches, hand signed and editioned in pen and ink, plate dated.

This c. 1910 etching by Fred Hall measures 13 3/8 x 10 3/4 inches and is pencil signed. Fred Hall was an English painter and printmaker who exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon winning a gold medal there in 1912. This image is of St. Nicolas du Chardonnet, a Roman Catholic church in the center of Paris.

This rare proof impression of the portion of the plate which was cut to be used in the book entitled "Etchings & Engravings" by Frank Short measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, cat: Hardie-166, 1922, original aquatint, printed on a folded sheet for use as a card, plate signed.

Etching Ca. 1920. Pencil titled in the lower left, pencil signed "J. Alphege Brewer" in the lower right. Plate measure 24 x 15 1/4 inches on 27 1/2 x 17 3/4 inch wove type paper. Brewer exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, at the Paris Salon of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, and in the shows of the Royal Cambrian Academy.
