This is an original aquatint etching by French artist Georges Rouault titled: " Le Director de Theatre", The Theater Director. From the series "Reincarnations of Pere Ubu", This is a rare hand signed impression lower right and also inscribed as M/O lower left. This etching was created and printed in 1928. The image measures 12X7 3/4 inches. It is printed on a medium weight wove type paper. Some light toning in the border area. Rouault was known to experiment with his etchings, this one not only has aquatint etching but also some roulette work, drypoint and use of a burnisher. A very rich heavily inked impression. This is an original etching by American artist James Whistler. The title: "Fumette", was created and printed in 1858, as part of the series, "The French Set" The image measures 6 1/2X4 1/4 inches. This is the 5th state of 5 which includes the printers address in the lower left corner of the image.
The name whistler is plate signed lower right. Framed. This impression is very richly inked with extensive plate tone in the backgroun of the subject.
Eloise ('Fumette') (fl. 1840-1858). Éloise - also called Héloïse - posed for Fumette, Whistler's first partner, Héloïse was a grisette, a vivid and fiery character. A grisette, as described in Henri Murger's Scènes de la vie de Bohème (1848/1851) and Alfred de Musset's poem Mimi Pinson (1845), was a working girl, a young seamstress or milliner, fun-loving and faithful as a lover.
This is an original etching and drypoint by American artist James M Whistler. The title is "The Forge", An interior view of the Blacksmith and his apprentices. The image printed on a thin Japan type paper has in image size of 7 5/8X12 1/2 inches. Extensive use of plate tone, a rich impression, This impression is the 6th state of 6 prior to the cancellation of the plate. It was created in 1861 as part of his series, "The Thames Set" It appears in the Kennedy catalog as image number 68. A fine image in very nice condition.

Helleu began his art career when he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and worked as an apprentice for Theodore Deck, decorating ceramic plates with women's portraits. He became friends with many artists of La Belle Epoch, including John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Tissot, Monet and Rodin, and became well known for his elegant portraits of women of French society. The young girl in this portrait is Helleu's daughter Ellen.
C. 1912. Pencil signed in the lower right. Plate initialed and dated in the lower left. Plate measures 11 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches on 16 1/2 x 11 1/2 inch watermarked Van Gelder Zonin laid paper. Catalog: Hjert and Hjert 209. A rare print. This is an excellent portrayal of a pensive woman with a rich drypoint burr. Anders Zorn's artistic talents were obvious at an early age. At 15 he entered the Royal Swedish Academy of Art in Stockholm and at 20 years old, at a student exhibition, he entered his watercolor painting "In Mourning" which now hangs in the National Museum in Stockholm. This recognition was the start of a long and accomplished career for Zorn.
This is a very cool lithograph on zinc, image size 12 5/8 x 17 7/8 inches, 1919-1920, from a very small edition of 27 or fewer impressions, cat: Czestochowski-134, printed by Bolton Brown, pencil signed. Provenance: The Cleveland Museum of Art. Davies was a truly remarkable artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries known for his dreamlike etchings and lithographs. In his catalog raisonne of Davies work, Czestochowski writes "In a time of social, political, scientific and artistic upheaval, Davies hewed to an unwavering inner vision, one of classically graceful figures in an eternal dance with nature." This image is a beautiful homage to the ancient Greeks, which Davies portrays in his distinctive style that is at once quite classical and quite modern.
Etching, image size 6 3/8 X 14 9/16 inches, printed in 1942 by Charles White in an edition of 150, 2nd state proof, numbered "II", cat: Fletcher-370, pencil signed and dated. This atmospheric etching is a great example of the delicate lines and precise detail for which Arms was known. This image won several awards in the early 1940s; the Mrs. Henry F Noyes Memorial Prize for best print at the 27th Annual Exhibition of the Society of American Etchers, New York, N.Y. 1943; the First Prize in Black and White Section at the 12th Annual Exhibition of the Irvington Art and Museum Association, Irvington, N. J. 1945; and the First Prize in Black and White at the Annual Art Exhibition of the Bridgeport Art League, Bridgeport, CT. 1945.

This is an original etching by Well known Belle Epoch artist Manuel Robbe (1872-1936) The title of this work is: "Parisienne", it was created and printed in 1906 in an edition of 200, published by Georges Petit. The image measures 19 1/2X13 1/2 inches. It is signed in pencil lower left within the image. A fine impression, previously sold by Merrill Chase galleries. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris.
With his hand application of color no two images look exactly the same, a very painterly technique.
This is an original etching and aquatint from 1922. Unsigned. Plate 19 from Miserere: Son avocat, et phrases creuses, clame sa totale inconscience. Plate measures 21 x 16 inches in a silver 30 x 24 1/2 inch frame. Georges Rouault began his art career at age fourteen, when he began a five year apprenticeship painting and restoring glass. This appears to have had a heavy influence on his cloisonnist style, with the heavy black contouring and glowing colors resembling leaded glass. He began attending evening classes during this apprenticeship and in 1891 entered the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Gustave Moreau. A devout Roman Catholic, his work was often religious, exploring themes of sin and redemption. Rouault is often associated with the Fauvist and Expressionist movements.
This is a colored drypoint, aquatint, and soft-ground etching from 1910. The plate measures 14 3/4 x 18 1/2 inches on 19 x 24 1/2 inch watermarked Arches laid paper. Pencil signed in the lower right. Edition of 200. This print is a fine example of Raffaëlli's impressionistic tendencies, with th subtle lighting and the atmospheric sky.
