This is an original drypoint etching by French impressionist printmaker, Alphonse Legros.  This image is titled: Milkmaid of Boulogne, 3rd plate (Laitiere a Boulogne)  Created and printed circa 1890.  The image measures 5 7/8X8 7/8 inches.  Hand signed in pencil, printed on a watermarked laid type sheet.  Richly printed.

This is a fine early impression of the etching by Adolphe Appian titled: Un Jour d'automne a Artemare .  Created and printed in 1871.  This impression was done before the later type setting with titled and publisher printed on the bottom border.  This image appears in the Curtis catalog as image number 32.  The image measures 4 3/4X8 1/4 inches.  Signed upper right within the plate.  A rich impression on a chine applique sheet adhered to a thicker she of wove type paper.  This impression was the first state of four. i/iv.

This framed lithograph by Engelmann after Vernet, measures 17 x 10 3/4 inches. It is plate signed and titled on the lower margin. Godefroy Engelmann was born in 1788 in Mühlhausen, France and trained in Switzerland and France at La Rochelle and Bordeaux. He studied painting and sketching in Jean-Baptiste Regnault’s atelier in Paris. In the summer of 1814 he traveled to Munich, Germany to study lithography and is largely credited with bringing lithography to France.

This is an original etching with aquatint by French impressionist Edward Manet .  The title is Theodore De Banville Facing Left, 1874.  This image was intended to be an illustration for his Les Ballades series.  This image measures 9 3/8X6 1/4 inches.  This impression was pulled from the cancelled plate in the early 20th century.  Printed on a Arches laid type paper.  This image appears in the Manet catalog as image number 64.  Théodore Faullain de Banville (14 March 1823 – 13 March 1891) was a French poet and writer. His work was influential on the Symbolist movement in French literature in the late 19th century.

This is an original etching by French artist Alphonse Legros.  It is a portrait of British etcher Sir Charles Holroyd.  Created circa 1889.  This image has a plate size of 11X7 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  This etching is hand signed in pencil lower right corner of the border.  

"Sir Charles Holroyd was one of the most prolific etchers of his generation. He was taught by Alphonse Legros at the Slade School of Art and his work shows the considerable influence of his close friend William Strang. Sir Charles Holroyd was appointed first Keeper of the Tate Gallery and later Director of the National Gallery. These posts ensured that he did not need to depend upon printmaking for his livelihood; consequently, his etchings were not issued in formal editions. Impressions of his etchings were only taken when required and, as a result, many of his printed works are very scarce indeed.

Alphonse Legros was the single most influential European printmaker upon the development of the etching revival in England. Born in Dijon, Legros was persuaded to move to London by Whistler, whom he had met in Paris. Legros rapidly achieved recognition for his highly accomplished etchings and in 1875 was placed in charge of the etching class at the Royal College in South Kensington and the following year was made Professor of Fine Art at the influential Slade School. It was during his eighteen years in this post that Legros was to exert a formidable influence upon the direction of an entire generation of British printmakers." (  thank you, Mr. Campbell)

This is an original etching by British artist Sir Francis Seymour Haden.  The title is: The Inn, Purfleet,  It was original composed and created in 1869.  This etching was done in 11 states, this was the published version and designated as X/XI before the plate was cut down.  This etching is pencil signed, the image measures 7X10 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  The image appears in the Schneiderman catalog as image number 127.  The scene was taken "from the left bank of the tidal waters of the lower Thames, some twelve miles east of London."
