Prints

This is a fine original lithograph, pencil signed by American artist Don Freeman.  The title is: Casting for Character,  it was created and printed in  1934 in an edition of 184.  The image measures 9 7/8X12 inches.  Published by Associated American Artists in New York.  

"The Three Sisters" by Sir Francis Seymour Haden measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches, pencil signed, 1868, state VI/V, cat: Schneiderman-119. Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894.

This is a very richly inked original etching by French artist Albert Besnard. The image size is 11 3/8 x 7 5/8 inches, published in 1887 in an edition of fewer than 100 impressions, cat: Coppier- 63, pencil signed. Besnard studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and for the beginning of his artistic career concentrated on a very academic style of painting and composition, before adopting a more impressionistic approach of portraying light and color; later he went to England to study portraiture with Thomas Gainesborough and Joshua Reynolds.

This is a scarce etching with drypoint by French artist Auguste Lepere.  The title is Sous Bois, a la Rigonette (Vendee) This image was created and printed in an edition of only 35 prior to the plate being cut down for the later more common edition.  The image measures 7 3/4X10 1/2 inches.  The etching is hand signed in pencil and numbered as 7/35.  Printed on a thin antique laid paper.  This image appears in the Texier catalog as image number 386 ii/iii.

This is a fine original etching by British artist David Young Cameron. The subject and title is: Dinant, This etching was created and printed by the artist in 1907, hand signed in pencil, The image measures 7 15/16X13 15/16 inches.  Printed on a light weight laid type sheet.  This image appears in the Rinder catalog as image number 395.  The edition was thought to be less than 75.  A fine rich impression.

This is a fine aquatint etching by British artist Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970)  The subject is Pavlova in her role as a Grecian Dancer.  It was created and printed in 1923 in an edition of 55.   This etching is pencil signed and inscribed "print 2"..The image mesures 9 7/8X 6 7/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet. 

This is an original wood block print by Jamaican artist  Albert Huie.  This image is titled: In The Woods, created and printed circa 1945.  This woodblock is hand signed and titled in pencil in the lower border.  The image measures 9 1/2X7 1/2 inches.  

Albert Huie (1920-2010) was a seminal figure in the formation and development of a national Jamaican artistic identity, overcoming the hurdles of a colonial-based system of race and class distinctions to become the first native-born Jamaican artist to attain international renown and respect. Working primarily in the areas of landscape, portraiture, and figurative art, he established a multiple award-winning career that spanned seven decades and earned him the title of “the Father of Jamaican Painting.” 

This is an impressive etching and drypoint by American artist William C. McNulty. The title is: "Demolishing the Century Theater, 1931" A great industrial study done in New York City. This etching has an image size of 9X11 1/4 inches. Pencil signed and titled. Done in an edition of 75 proofs.

This is a fine color aquatint and etching by French artist Manuel Robbe, this impressionistic image is titled: Clichy, created and printed in 1910 in an edition of 100.  This image measures 23 1/2X14 1/2 inches. Pencil signed lower right.  This image is printed on a medium weight laid type Arches watermarked sheet, with publishers blind stamp lower left corner.  This impression is numbered as 79.

Rare print with remarque from 1883, plate signed in the lower left. Catalog: Schneider 78. Edition of 30 with remarque. Plate measures 9 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches on 15 x 22 inch wove type paper. This is an atmospheric print with lovely plate tone.

This is an atmospheric marine etching by J. Henry Hill, after the painting by Otis Weber. The image measures 14 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches, published in 1886 by Klackner, New York, pencil signed on the lower right margin. Hill came from a family of artists and became a well known landscape and marine painter keeping with the pre-raphaelite tradition, influenced by John Ruskin and David Johnson.

This is an original pencil signed color aquatint etching by Austrian artist Tavik F. Simon.  The title of this work is: Saint Nicholas Market in Staromestske Namesti, which was part of his  Prague series, created and printed in 1916.  The edition was 225 impressions.  Printed on a medium weight arches watermarked wove type paper. The image measures 12 5/8X15 1/2 inches.  Very fine condition.  This image appears in the Novak catalog as image number 268.

This is an original etching by Belgium artist Jules DeBruycker.  It is titled Ruelle Gand, it was created and printed in 1906.  Hand signed and titled in pencil, Le Ruelle.  The image measures 13 1/2X5 1/2 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  With a Van Gelder watermark.

Etching after a painting by J. W. Carmichael, image size 17 3/4 x 27 1/4 inches, published in London Feb. 17th 1871 by L. Brall & Sons, period frame.

This is a fine original pencil signed etching by American artist Charles Woodbury .  This etching is titled The Pilot, created 1916.  The image measures 8 3/4X11 inches. Woodbury was born in Lynn Ma where he became known for his coastal paintings and etchings.   He went to Holland in 1890 to study art,   Upon his return to New England he settled in Boston for  his winter studio and spent his summers in the small fishing village of Ogunquit, Maine; there he founded one of the most successful of the summer art colony schools of art.
