This is a beautiful cast bronze portrait of a young girl by Italian/American artist Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta. The bust is 14 inches tall and stands on a 6 inch base. signed by the artist on the lower corner, dated 1912, with a Benjamin Zoppo, New York foundry mark. Scarpitta was born in Italy and graduated from the Royal Italian Academy before emigrating to America. He was a very successful sculptor, creating commissions for the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building, the Church of St John the Evangelist and Church of the Sacred Blood, as well as portraits of Mussolini, Marlene Dietrich, and Frank Springer; in 1914 he was awarded the Bartlett Prize from the National Academy of Design.
This is a fine British School portrait of a young woman done in Bronze. The sculpture is signed lower right,back with both a monogram F.G. and also written out and dated 1929. No foundry marks visible. The bronze measures 13X13X7 inches. Very fine patina.A fine Arts and Crafts style.
