A scene of the Exposition Universelle with the Palais de machines in the background. In ink in the lower left, "collection of A. Desmoulins edition 1 of 2. A very rare print." Plate signed in the lower right, pencil signed in the lower right. Published by A. Desmoulins. Auguste-Louis Lepere was one of the leading French printmakers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Wood engraving, plate measures 3 1/2 x 6 1/8 inches on 6 x 9 inch thin laid type paper. Ink signed in the lower right and numbered 13/35. C. 1900. Published by A. Desmoulins. A detailed print with good tonal range. Auguste-Louis Lepere was one of the leading French printmakers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He began studying printmaking at the age of 13 with Joseph Burn Smeeton in Paris and quickly made a name for himself with his innovative style and technically brilliant etchings and wood engravings.

Des Demolitions de la Sorbonne

Wood engraving, plate measures 4 3/4 x 12 1/4 inches on 9 x 15 1/2 inch thin wove type paper. C. 1885. Signed in ink in the lower right and numbered 29/35. Plate signed in the lower right. Inscribed in the plate in the lower left: "LA BDF." Published by A. Desmoulins. An atmospheric engraving with lots of detail. Auguste-Louis Lepere was one of the leading French printmakers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Volcanic Rock

Wood engraving from 1932. Pencil signed and dated in the lower right, pencil titled and numbered 35/130 in the lower left. Plate measures 5 1/2 x 9 inches on 11 x 14 inch wove type paper. A bold and dramatic print with strong contrast. Leon Gilmour immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Boston, where he studied at the School of Practical Art. He then worked until he had enough money to go to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied wood engraving under Paul Landacre.

Shepherd Crest

Plate measures 7 5/8 x 8 inches on 11 1/4 x 10 1/8 inch wove type paper. Pencil signed and dated 1981 in the lower right, pencil titled and numbered 20/100 in the lower left. This print has a unique composition and incredible linework. Leon Gilmour immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Boston, where he studied at the School of Practical Art. He then worked until he had enough money to go to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied wood engraving under Paul Landacre.

Verdugo Hills

Sierra Watercourse

Print measures 6 1/8 x 8 inches on thin wove type 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Numbered 15 in an edition of 100. Pencil signed and dated "1977" in the lower right, pencil signed in the lower left. This wood engraving is full of motion and enthralling linework.
