This is an original pencil signed etching by British artist Stanley Anderson.  The title is: The National Gallery, created and printed in 1925 in an edition of 109.  This image is pencil signed by the artist.  This impression is the second state an edition of 8, before the print collectors edition which was printed in an edition of 100 for the members.The image measures 8 3/4X11 1/4 inches. Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  This image appears in the Meyrick catalog as image number 167.  "One of the earlier group of Stanley Anderson’s scenes depicting the tramps of London, this image casts a somewhat cynical eye upon the established art in our major public galleries. The paintings hang unnoticed as the visitors sit, reading the newspaper or knitting, and the tramps lie asleep".  (Campbell)

Colored softground and aquatint from 1925. Numbered 65 in an edition of 300. Catalog: Novak 432. Pencil signed in the lower right, numbered in the lower left. Plate measures 11 5/8 x 15 1/4 inches on 15 1/8 x 19 inch watermarked wove type paper. An atmospheric etching that captures the bleak weather with splashes of color. F. Simon was born in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Asia and the U.S. He lived in Paris from 1905-1913, then returned to Prague to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts. Simon was an exceptional painter and printmaker, and is best known for his atmospheric color etchings and aquatints, such as this wintry Paris scene.

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist William Lionel Wyllie.  The title is: Old Waterloo Bridge, London, created and printed circa 1920.  The image measures 7 1/2X14 inches.  hand signed in pencil lower left border.  Wyllie was one of the leading British marine artists at the turn of the century .  Nicely framed, last sold by Harrods LTD in London.

This is an original etching with aquatint and drypoint by French artist Louis Legrand.  The title is: L'Habillage (Dressing)   a back stage view done for  the La Petite Classe, a series of 12 images  that Legrand created as a portfolio in  1908.  The image measures 16 3/4X11 3/4 inches.  This was the 4th state of 5 which includes the Remarque of a racehorse, printed in an edition of 30.  Signed in pencil and numbered,14/30.  This image appears in the Arwas catalog as image number 369.  This etching printed on a buff toned sheet is archivally framed.  This image was used as the cover of the Arwas catalog.

This is a fine example of the excellent portraiture by British artist Gerald Brockhurst.  THis portrait created and printed in 1944 is of Mary Mellon, the wife of well known founder of Washington's National Gallery of Art Paul Mellon.  The image measures 10X8 inches, and is hand signed and dated in pencil lower right border.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  A beautiful rich impression, Brockhurst at his best... This is a fine line engraving by British artist Stanley Anderson.  The title is The Old Tinker.  This pencil signed impression measures 7 X5 1/2  inches, created and printed in 1933.  This image appears in the Anderson Catalog as image number 208.  The tinker is depicted soldering a patch to a leaking kettle while his wife is about to renew the cane seat of an old chair.  Anderson often returned to the subject of the wanderer, of itinerants such as wayfarers pedlars and gypsies making their way through town.  This engraving is in a modern frame with archival materials.

A richly inked drypoint from 1919. Catalog reference: Gaunt 245. Edition of 54. Pencil signed in the lower right. Plate measures 19 x 20 3/4 inches on 24 1/2 x 29 1/2 inch wove type paper. Sir Frank Brangwyn was one of the most important British artists of the early 20th century. A member of the Royal Academy, the Royal Watercolor Society, and the Royal Society of British Artists, he was knighted in 1924.

This is a very rare etching from a scarce, unpublished plate by Francis Sydney Unwin. The image size is 12 1/8 x 16 inches, 1916, pencil signed; a richly inked impression on a fine cream colored Japan paper. Unwin studied at the Winchester School of Art and the Slade School; he traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent several months in Egypt drawing the tomb interiors for an archaeological expedition. He then settled in London, becoming known for his landscapes and remarkable interior architectural views, such as this finely detailed image of the Albert Hall. Unwin died at the age of 40, after suffering from tuberculosis for much of his adult life.
