Working primarily in the areas of landscape, portraiture, and figurative art, he established a multiple award-winning career that spanned seven decades and earned him the title of “the Father of Jamaican Painting.”

Britain's "General Strike" was the theme of Brisco's dramatic image of "The Orator". The strike, mainly by coal-miners upset with their goverments' reduction in wages and worsening conditions, also included dockers, printers, power station workers and transport workers, thus Brisco's interest in the subject.

"Hardie writes, "Margot, the twelve-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Murray, in a fancy dress made to resemble that of Lopokova, the Russian dancer, stands with head slightly bent forward and arms at sides. On the left, her mother is sitting with arms outstretched altering the fop flounce of the dress."
