20th Century European Prints

"Brixham Trawlers" by Arthur Briscoe measures 5 3/8 x 13 7/8 inches, published in 1929 in an edition of 75. Printed in sepia toned ink on Whatman laid paper, it is ink signed and numbered and also plate signed, dated and titled. Briscoe is known as the finest marine etcher of the 20th. century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast. Also crewing on a Polish ship, he sketched every aspect of life on the boat. He studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris. His name became internationally renowned when his works sold to the New York market. 

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist William Lee Hankey.  The title is: Minding the Flock.  This etching created and printed circa 1920 is hand signed in pencil by the artist.  A large etching measuring 14X11 1/2 inches.Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  Fine use of the sunlight and shadow in this beautiful composition.

This is a fine original etching by British artist Robert S. Austin.  The title is: The Stone Breaker, created and printed in 1925.  The image measures 4 1/8X5 5/16 inches. This impression printed on a tan laid paper with a rams head watermark.  Very fine condition, hand signed in pencil.  Illustrated in the Modern Masters quarterly 1929 published by Salaman.

This is an original lithograph by German artist Alfred Partikel.  It is a view of women working in the field.  This lithograph is hand signed in pencil, the image measures 8 3/4X12 1/2 inches.  Printed circa 1910, it is numbered as 7/15.  Printed on a brown toned wove type paper.

This fine drypoint etching is by French artist Louis Legrand.  The title is: Le Pochard, one of his night club scenes.  This pencil signed etching measures 8 1/8X5 5/8 inches.  numbered 10/65.   This image appears in the Arwas catalog as image number A 387.  Very fine condition.

This is a fine etching by British artist William L. Wyllie (1851-1931)  This image is titled: Panoramic View of Westminster from St. Pauls, created and printed circa 1920.  Hand signed and titled in the lower border.  The image measures 7X15 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

This is an original etching by French artist Edgar Chahine.  The image is pencil signed and titled: La Basilica de San Marco, Venice.  This is a finely printed example on a laid type sheet.  The image measures 12 1/2X8 1/4 inches.  It is numbered as 35/100.  There is a stamp or collectors seal at the upper border.  Richly printed with fine use of plate tone.  This impression was created and printed in 1923.

This is a fine original etching by Brtish Marine artist Arthur Briscoe.  The title is: The Bowsprit.  This etching is hand signed with pen and ink. It is also numbered as 22/75, the image measures 8 3/4X13 7/8 inches.  This etching was printed on an antique laid type sheet.  A few inherent flaws in original to the sheet, unobtrusive.  A fine dramatic image of the men stowing the Jib on the bowsprit.

This is a scarce etching by Scottish artist David Y. Cameron.  The title is: Robert Lee's Workshop, created and printed in 1905, this is the third state of three.  hand signed in pencil 1/4 inch borders on three sides, more on the bottom.  "This etching shows the boat-builers workshop at Tweedmouth.  The image measures 11 7/8X8 5/8 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.  This image appears in the Rinder catalog as image number 375.

This is a large original engraving by French artist Albert Decaris, (1901-1988)  This engraving is titled: L'Arbre,  The Tree, located in Besancon France, just outside of Paris.  The image created and printed in 1926 has an image size of 26 1/2X17 1/2 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  This impression is numbered and signed in pencil in the lower border.  W7/60.  "Decaris was born in Sotteville-lès-Rouen. At age 19, Decaris won the Concours de Rome, which was seen as the premiere award among young French artists at the time. He was elected Fellow of The French Académie des Beaux Arts in 1943".

This is a fine pencil signed drypoint etching by British artist Edmund Blampied, The title is: Morning Gossip, created in Jersey, in 1928 in an edition of 100.  This one is numbered as 93/100.  The image measures 8 7/8 X12 1/2 inches.  Morning Gossip is one of the best known of all of Edmund Blampied’s famous Jersey scenes, portraying the social side of everyday peasant life as remembered from his youth. This is a fine original pencil signed etching by British artist Chares F. Tunnicliffe.  The image of men repairing the thatched roof is titled: The New Rick.  It was created and printed in an edition of 75 in 1927.  The image measures 8X10 inches.  Hand signed and numbered in pencil 2/75.  A fine image by this important British artist and printmaker.

This is a fine original etching with drypoint by British artist William Lionel Wyllie.  This image is of the HMS Victory Firing the Salute in Portsmouth Harbour, created and printed circa 1920, hand signed in pencil this image measures 8 3/8X19 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight laid type sheet.  Very fine condition.  HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate wooden sailing ship of the line. With 247 years of service as of 2025, she is the world's oldest naval vessel still in commission.

This is a large pencil signed color etching by Austrian artist T.F. Simon.  The title is: Charles Bridge in Winter, Prague, created and printed in 1916 in an edition of 100.  A large work by Simon measuring an image of 15 3/4X20 5/8 inches.  A finely detailed work.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  Novak 255

A soft ground etching by German Expressionist artist Lovis Corinth, this image measures 12 1/2 x 9 3/8 inches, published in 1910 in an edition of 50 impressions, state I/III, cat: Schwarz-41,"LC" monogram in the upper left of the image, a faded signature below the image, framed. Corinth began his career studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and went on to study under Bouguereau at the Academie Julian in Paris. He later returned to Germany and became a member and eventually president of the Berlin "Sezession." Corinth is best known for his prints and paintings of figures and portraits.
