Prints

This is a beautifully energetic original etching with drypoint by French artist Hermine David. The image size is 9 7/8 x 8 1/8 inches, published in 1927 in a small edition of 40, pencil signed and numbered. A rich impression on a medium weight watermarked wove type paper. Hermine David was born and raised in Paris and at the age of 16 was accepted into the Ecole Des Beaux Arts, later going on the study at the Academy Julien. She was a well known painter and printmaker and was very active in the thriving artist community in Paris in the early 20th century. She was married to fellow artist Jules Pascin for several years, but in 1920 the couple divorced and David set up her own studio in Montparnasse. She went on to have a long successful career as an artist and illustrator and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1932.

This is an original etching by French artist Charles Francois Daubigny, the image is plate signed and titled: Le Marais, (The Marsh)  it was created and printed in 1851  and is from the third state of six, iii/vi  This image appears in the Frankel catalog as image number D-84.  A fine impression on a chine collet adhered to a thicker wove type base sheet.  This is the edition with title, artist and printer in the lower border.  

Passerelle du Pont-au-Change, après l'incendie de 1621 (The Footbridge temporarily replacing the Pont-au-Change, Paris, after the fire of 1621, after Della Bella)1860.  Etching by French artist Charles Meryon, 1860.  This etching has an image size of 4 11/16X9 inches.  It is the 7th state of 9 and appears in the Delteil/Wright  catalog as image number 50.  Published in teh Gazette des Beaux Arts, vol. 8 Nov.1, 1860.

This is an original drypoint etching by British artist James McBey.  The title is: Brightlingsea number 2. Created and printed in 1922 in an edition of 90, this impression is hand signed with pen and ink and numbered X.  The image measures 7 1/2X12 inches.  This etching appears in the Salaman catalog as image number 212.  A fine impression printed on an antique laid type sheet.

This is an original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Lord.  The title of this image is Bird with Hydrangea.  Created and printed circa 1930 in and edition of 75.  This image is hand signed, numbered 58/75 and titled: "Chinese".  The image measures 11 1/4X12 1/4 inches.  Printed on a thin japan type sheet.

This is an original pencil signed wood engraving by American artist Thomas Nason.  This image is titled: The Sheepfold it was created in 1947 in an edition of 100.  The image measures 3 1/8X7 1/2 inches.  Nicely Framed.  This image appears in the BPL catalog as image number 421.

This is an original etching by British artist Sir Francis Seymour Haden.  The title is: The Inn, Purfleet,  It was original composed and created in 1869.  This etching was done in 11 states, this was the published version and designated as X/XI before the plate was cut down.  This etching is pencil signed, the image measures 7X10 inches, printed on a medium weight laid type paper.  The image appears in the Schneiderman catalog as image number 127.  The scene was taken "from the left bank of the tidal waters of the lower Thames, some twelve miles east of London."

This is a fine drypoint etching by British artist Sir Henry Rushbury.  The subject is the destruction of St. Olave's cathedral on  Tooley Street in Bermondsey.  This drypoint is hand signed by the artist with pen and ink in the lower border.  The image measures 11 3/8X8 1/16 inches.  Very richly printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  This image created in 1927.  "the demolition in process of a historic London dockside church, St Olave's, Bermondsey/ Southwark. This took place because of local depopulation and the church being given 'redundant' status. Demolition took place in two stages and Rushbury has cleverly seized the moment when the nave was all but destroyed (1926) but the tower was still intact. This didn't last long, and it was demolished in turn in 1928. Building materials and debris litter the foreground."

This is an original pencil signed etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  The subject is: Destroyers in Wet Basin at Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, South Kearny, N. J. U.S.S. Radford, Quick, Mervine - 1942.   This image measures 10X17 1/2 inches.  In the Fletcher catalog as image number 377

This is an original pencil signed etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The title is The Woolworth Building, created and printed in 1915 in an edition of 100.  The image measures 11 3/4X7 3/8 inches.  THis image appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 675.  This is a fine impression with 1/8 inches borders on two sides.  Typical of the printing of Pennell.  Framed.

This is a pencil signed etching by American artist Charles Adams Platt.  The title is: Inner Port, Trouville, France, created and printed in  1888.  The image measures 6 1/4X9 1/4 inches.  Nicely framed with archival boards.

This is a great London etching by American artist Clifford Addams, image size 8 7/8 x 7 1/2 inches, c. 1902, edition of 75, inscribed in the plate, "Loci dulcedo nos attinet" (the sweetness of the place holds us), pencil signed and numbered. Clifford Addams grew up outside Philadelphia and studied art in the U. S. before leaving to further his studies in Europe. He traveled extensively throughout Holland, France, Spain, Italy and Britain, and spent several years in London studying etching with Whistler. He later returned to the U. S. and worked out of studios in both New York and London. He was known for his European city scenes, such as this Whistleresque image of a man gazing out over the busy Thames.

This is a fine color woodcut by German artist Martin Erich Phillipp.  This artist known for his color woodblock prints printed in the 1920's in the Arts and Crafts style.  This image of Two Red Parrots is hand signed and titled as " Rote Arar I"..The image measures 9 1/8X6 1/2 inches.  Very richly colored, it looks like a monoprint.  The work of this artist is quite scarce in the USA.  Printed on a handmade Japan type sheet.
