20th Century American Prints

This is an original pencil signed wood engraving by Latvian American artist Isac Friedlander.  This image is titled Self Portrait, New York and dated 1935.  The image measures 10 3/4X8 3/4 inches.  Isac Friedlander (1890-1968) was born in Latvia. In 1912 he went to Italy where he met and worked with Russian artist Maxim Gorky. During this period he also received his only art training, studying etching, drawing and relief printing at the Academy of Rome. In 1937, he emigrated to New York where he worked full time as an artist until his death. He is best known for his woodcuts and etchings, and many museums have works by the artist, including the Smithsonian, Bibliotheque Nationale, and the Brooklyn Museum.

This is an original etching and aquatint by American artist Kerr Eby.  The title is: Still Hollow 1936, a winter scene most likely near his home in Connecticut.  This etching was created in an edition of 100.  The image measures 10 3/16X14 1/2 inches.  Pencil signed and editioned in the bottom border.  Fine condition, a rich impression.  Presented in a fine frame with archival framing materials.  This image appears in the Giardina catalog as image number 185.

This is a very fine original hand colored drypoint etching by American artist Dorsey Potter Tyson.  The title is: Dragon Boat Festival, this etching was created and printed in 1929 in an edition of 100, this one is numbered as 42/100.  This pencil signed etching measures an image of 11 7/8X9 7/8 inches.  It is nicely framed in an orientalist frame with french matting.

This is an artists proof etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  The title is Limoges, part of his French Church Series created and printed in 1932.  This etching is hand signed in pencil with an image size of 10 1/16X13 5/8.  This image is inscribed lower right: "Beautiful impression, pulled by D.S. and J.T.A."  Inscribed also as artist proof number III.  Printed on a J. Whatman watermarked laid type paper.  A beautiful impression.

This is an original pencil signed and titled lithograph by American artist Henry Ziegler.  This image is titled: The Last Fight in Old Madison Square Garden, it was created and printed in 1925.  This large image measures 14 1/2X19 3/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.  One of Ziegler's most impressive lithographs.

This is an original etching, pencil signed by American artist Douglas Gorsline.  The title Express Stop was created and printed in 1945.  The image measures 6 3/8X5 3/4 inches.  It was published by Associated American Artists in New York.  The edition was 250.  Nicely framed with archival materials.

Etching with aquatint, image size 7 7/8 x 10 7/8 inches, 1918-1919, state VII/VIII, cat: Czestochowski-69, alternate title "Far Prospect," pencil signed, framed. Davies was a truly remarkable artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries known for his dreamlike etchings and lithographs. In his catalog raisonne of Davies work, Czestochowski writes "In a time of social, political, scientific and artistic upheaval, Davies hewed to an unwavering inner vision, one of classically graceful figures in an eternal dance with nature." This rare, early state etching is a perfect example of the combination of classicism and modernism of Davies' work.

This is a fine atmospheric etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The subject is: Caissons on Vesey Street, N.Y.  This image was created and printed in 1924, in an edition of 75, pencil signed, also with a collectors name at the upper edge of the sheet.  Printed on an antique laid type paper. The image measures 13 3/4X9 1/8 inches.  THis subject was the construction of the New York Telephone building, The Barclay Vesey building.  The image is in the Wuerth catalog as image number 854.

This is a fine early lithograph by American artist Stow Wengenroth.  The title is: Three Trees, Eastport Maine,  it was created and printed in 1932 in an edition of only 50.  This pencil signed lithograph has an image size of 8 3/16X12 3/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.

This is an original etching by American artist Gottlob L. Briem (1899-1972)) The title of this work is :Wall Street, N.Y.C." It was created and printed in 1930 in an edition of 100. The image mesres 13 15/16X8 15/16 inches. It is hand signed in pencil lower right.

This is a fine original etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  This etching is titled The Red Mill, also called The Red Barn, Southport.  The image measures 11 1/8X7 1/4 inches.  This pencil signed impression done in etching and aquatint was published in 1922 in a first edition of 25.  Beautiful tonal range and fine composition with extensive reflections in the water.  This etching was later printed with some color in the barn and sky.  Nicely framed with French matting.
