20th Century American Prints

This is one of the finest etchings by American artist George Elbert Burr.  The title of this work is: High Street, Oxford, circa 1900 when he and his wife spent time touring europe.  A wonderful impression of a rainy night in the city.  Richly inked, pencil signed and titled in the lower border.  The image measures 10X12 inches.  Framed.

This is a fantastic scene of the railroad tracks and surrounding industrial buildings in Oberhausen, Germany by American artist Joseph Pennell. Etching, image size 9 3/8 x 12 1/2 inches, published in 1910 in an edition of 50 impressions, cat: Wuerth- 606, pencil signed "J. Pennell imp", the 'imp' indicating that Pennell printed this impression himself. This etching is printed on an early antique watermarked laid type paper with trimmed margins and a tab signature, in the style of Whistler. There are two small rust spots which appear to be in the paper, as is common in early paper of this type. Pennell was one of the foremost American printmakers of the early 20th century, and was close friends with James McNeill Whistler, whose influence is evident in many of Pennell's images as well as his sense of experimentation with etching technique. Pennell was especially known for his images of cityscapes and architecture; in this image the trains and surrounding factories provide the structure of the composition, while ghostly, quickly rendered figures give a human presence and sense of scale to the bustling railyard.

This is an original pencil signed etching by American artist Joseph Pennell.  The title of this work is: "Sunset from the Williamsburg Bridge, NY"  It was created and printed in 1915 in an edition of 100.  The image measures 8 3/8X10 15/16 inches.  It appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 674.  This etching has a collectors stamp in the lower border and the original Kappel N.Y. label.  The margins are thin on three sides which was typical of Pennell's etchings.  A fine and atmospheric image.

Lithograph printed in 1939. Edition of 25. Pencil titled in the lower left, signed and dated in pencil in the lower right. Plate measures 13 1/4 x 9 7/8 inches on 18 x 12 3/8. A delightful print full of light and movement.

This is a very fine original etching by American sporting artist Roland Clark.  The title of this work is: Before the Squall, it was created and printed in 1929 in an edition of 75.  The image measures 12X15 inches.  The setting was Currituck Sound, North Carolina.  This etching is framed.

This is an original drypoint etching by American artist Lawrence Kupferman.  It is titled: "Abandoned House", it was created and printed in 1939, this is editioned as 5/100.  The image measures 10 1/2X12 inches.  It is pencil signed and titled in the lower border

9 3/8 x 11 1/2 inch etching and sandpaper ground on wove type paper, ed. 100. Cat: Giardina 193. Printed in 1937. Pencil signed "Kerr Eby imp", the "imp" indicating that Eby printed this impression himself.

Kerr Eby was a remarkable printmaker and a member of the Cos Cob Art Colony and friends with many of the important artist of the day, including Childe Hassam and John Taylor Arms. Eby was known for his atmospheric renderings of the New England landscape as well as his dramatic images of WWI.

This is an original lino cut by American artist Albert Abramovitz.  This work untitled is of two Masons laying brick.  The image measures 12X9 1/4 inches.  Pencil signed lower right border printed on a wove type buff toned sheet.  This image is likely from his Moscow, Work at night series showing the construction of their Subway system.

This is an original woodblock print by American artist Albert Abramovitz.  The subject is the construction of the Moscow subway. Circa 1935.  Printed in a small edition. This image pencil signed and titled measures 7 5/8X6 3/8 inches.  Printed on a thin Japan type paper.

This is an original drypoint etching by American sporting artist Frank Benson.  The title is "Teal" a fine study of a family swimming in a quiet pond.  The image measures 7 7/8X10 7/8 inches.  Pencil signed lower left border.  A fine rich impression from the edition of 150.  Printed on a Whatman watermarked medium weight paper.  This image appears in the Ordeman catalog as image number 243.

This is an original etching by American artist Kerr Eby.  The title is: "Light in the Woods", it was created and printed in 1931.  This etching was printed in an edition of 100, printed by the artist himself.  There is the "imp" written after the artists pencil signature.  The image14 1/2X9 1/2 inches. Very richly printed.  This image appears as image number 161 in the Giardina catalog.  The scene is thought to be either Connecticut or Maine.  Fine condition.
