Recent Acquisitions

This is an original engraving with drypoint by American artist Armin Landeck.  The title is: Shadowed Street, created and printed in 1947 in an edition of 100.  This pencil signed impression measures 7 3/4X11 7/8 inches.  Beautiful condition.  
"Landeck found inspiration in the play of shadows found between the buildings of cities, perhaps drawn to the way their angles played against those of the architecture." (Annex).  Found in the 
Kraeft catalog as image number 98.

Flint 131. Signed in pencil lower right: “Peggy Bacon.”; titled in pencil lower left: “The Spirit of Rain.” A fine impression in fine condition, with full margins. Published by Associated American Artists in New York,  in 1937; in edition of 250.  Painter, portrait painter, caricaturist, illustrator, lithographer, writer, art educator. Peggy Bacon studied with John Sloan and Kenneth Hayes Miller.

Douglas GORSLINE (American, 1913-1985): "Express Stop". Etching on laid paper ,created and printed in  1948. Published by The Society of American Etchers, Gravers, Lithographers and Woodcutters, New York, as a presentation print. Signed in pencil. Plate size: 6 1/2 x 5 7/8 inches.  This etching came to us in the original Society folder as issued.  Hand signed by the artist in pencil.

This is an original unsigned watercolor painting attributed to David Cox Sr.  This view of cows by the river measures 6 1/8X9 7/8 inches.  The painting is in very nice condition done on a prepared watercolor sheet.  Two pin holes in the upper corners where it was once tacked to a board.  This is a fine early watercolor , David Cox was an English landscape painter, one of the most important members of the Birmingham School of landscape artists and an early precursor of Impressionism. He is considered one of the greatest English landscape painters, and a major figure of the Golden age of English watercolour.

This is a fine original watercolor painting unsigned but  attributed to David Cox Sr.  This work done on a prepared artist watercolor board.  The image measures 5 3/4X9 5/8 inches.  Very fine condition apart from two tiny pin holes in the upper corners which once tacked this to a board.  Rich color.  David Cox was an English landscape painter, one of the most important members of the Birmingham School of landscape artists and an early precursor of Impressionism. This is a fine drypoint etching by American artist Gerald Geerlings.  The title is: Grand Canal,America, Electrical  Building at Night, created and printed in  1933 in an edition of 100.  The image measures 11 7/8X8 7/8 inches.  This image was created as a presentation print for the Chicago Society of Etchers.  Their blind stamp is in the lower left  corner of the border.  This impression is hand signed by the artist in pencil.  Printed on a medium weight wove type sheet.  A very rich impression. This is an original Japanese woodblock print by Omura Koyo, created in 1952  this woodblock is titled: Cat at Play.  A fine example of in and embossment, a rich rich inking.  The image measures 10 1/2X15 1/4 inches.  The image on the lower right side has both the artist's stamped name and also written in pencil.  Publishers information on the right border.  

This is an original pencil signed wood engraving by British artist and illustrator John Nash. The title is Marrow and other Autumn Fruit and Flowers, created and printed in 1935. This image created for the H.E. Bates book, Flowers and Faces has an image size of 7X5 inches.  Printed on a soft wove type sheet.  The sheet size is: 10X8 inches.  Nash was a member of the Society of Wood Engravers in Britian.

This is an early color aquatint etching by American artist John Taylor Arms.  The title is: A Hong Kong Canal Boat, created and printed in 1919 in an edition of only 40 printed in color.  The image measures 8 1/16 X 5 1/2 inches.  this image is pencil signed and appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 23.  Printed by Frederick Reynolds.

This is a fine original lithograph by American artist Rockwell Kent.  The title is: Bringing Home the Christmas Tree,  created and printed in an edition of 100 in 1928.  Hand signed in pencil the image mesures 12X8 3/8 inches.  Very fine condition, Printed on a Rives B.F.K. wove type sheet.  This image appears in the Burne-Jones catalog as image number 29.  It was in the mid-twenties that Kent began illustrating classic literature. By the end of 1928 he had settled permanently in the Adirondack Mountains in his personally named farm, Asgaard. On his farm Kent wrote and illustrated his third novel, North by East in 1930.  This is one of his best modernist lithographic studies that he created during that time.

This is an early scene of New York City from the river by American artist John Taylor Arms.  The title is New York Skyline, and also called The Sketch of New York Skyline.  This image was created and printed in 1921 in an edition of 75.  This pencil signed impression measures 7X5 inches.  It appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 103.  Printed on a buff toned watermarked laid type paper.

This is a fine wood engraving by American artist Rockwell Kent.  The title is: Sea ad Sky created in 1931 and published in 1932 in an edition of 150.  The image measures 10X6 1/2 inches.  This impression is hand signed in pencil, 14 1/2X11 1/4 inches.  Printed on a medium weight Shogun watermarked buff tone wove type paper.  This image appears in the Jones catalog as image number 85....Wood engraving on maple.

This is a fine original pencil signed etching by American artist Charles Woodbury .  This etching is titled The Pilot, created 1916.  The image measures 8 3/4X11 inches. Woodbury was born in Lynn Ma where he became known for his coastal paintings and etchings.   He went to Holland in 1890 to study art,   Upon his return to New England he settled in Boston for  his winter studio and spent his summers in the small fishing village of Ogunquit, Maine; there he founded one of the most successful of the summer art colony schools of art.

This is an original etching with aquatint by French impressionist Edward Manet .  The title is Theodore De Banville Facing Left, 1874.  This image was intended to be an illustration for his Les Ballades series.  This image measures 9 3/8X6 1/4 inches.  This impression was pulled from the cancelled plate in the early 20th century.  Printed on a Arches laid type paper.  This image appears in the Manet catalog as image number 64.  Théodore Faullain de Banville (14 March 1823 – 13 March 1891) was a French poet and writer. His work was influential on the Symbolist movement in French literature in the late 19th century.
